That was made all the more clear with the release of the MIVCA All-State teams for 2022 last week.
A total of 15 members of the Class of 2025 earned a spot on one of the first three All-State teams in their respective division.
The list is a collection of talent that will definitely be making waves for years to come.
Division 1
Campbell Flynn Campbell Flynn 6'2" | S Mercy | 2025 State #4 Nation MI , Setter/OH Mercy – First Team
Flynn is a complete player, as she is an elite setter and a great hitter as well. She racked up 666 assists, 344 kills, 270 digs and 105 aces in her sophomore season for Mercy.
Isabelle Busignani Isabelle Busignani 6'1" | OH Marian | 2025 State #73 Nation MI , OH Marian – First Team
Izzy Busignani led the Marian offense to a third consecutive state championship this season. She put up 531 kills while hitting .303. That included a total of 48 kills in two matches at Kellogg Arena. Busignani also had 331 digs, 40 aces and 33 blocks.
Ella Craggs Ella Craggs 5'9" | S Northville | 2025 State #127 Nation MI , Setter Northville – Second Team
Craggs ran the Northville offense to hitting nearly .300 as a team while making its way to the Division 1 final. Craggs finished the season with over 1,100 assists, 280 digs, 75 kills and 50 aces.
Division 2
Abby Pickard, Setter/OH Lakewood – First Team
Lakewood was in need of some players to step up in 2022 and Pickard certainly did that. She was part of a two-setter system while also bringing some solid striking to the net. She helped the Vikings reach the D2 quarterfinals.
Olivia Grenadier Olivia Grenadier 6'1" | MB Country Day | 2025 State #91 Nation MI , MH Country Day – First Team
Following a tremendous club season, Grenadier was the consistent offensive force for a DCD team that had to deal with injuries throughout the season. She hit an impressive .460 on the season with 367 kills. She also added 57 blocks and 230 digs.
Division 3
Navea Gauthier Navea Gauthier 6'1" | OH Shelby | 2025 State #56 Nation MI , OH Shelby – First Team
You’d have a hard time finding a more valuable player to her team than Gauthier. Her 987 kills this season ranks fourth in MHSAA history. Her 51 in a quarterfinal loss to Kalamazoo Christian, ranks third all-time in MHSAA history for a match. If that wasn’t enough, she also had 513 digs and 136 aces for the Tigers. With 1,581 kills through two seasons, the all-time MHSAA career kills record of Alisha Glass (3,584) may not be out of reach.
Jessica Costlow Jessica Costlow 5'11" | OH SMCC | 2025 State #142 Nation MI , OH SMCC – First Team
Costlow was an All-State performer as a freshman and built on it as a sophomore by adding even more shots to her offensive arsenal, while also improving on her defense. Costlow, also strong from the service line, doesn’t have a weakness.
McKenna Payne McKenna Payne 5'7" | DS/L SMCC | 2025 State #105 Nation MI , OH/DS SMCC – First Team
Already one of the best defenders in the Midwest, Payne shows outstanding skills at the net for the Kestrels as well. She can make any play offensively or defensively and is why SMCC was ranked No. 1 for most of the season.
Shelby Ignash Shelby Ignash 6'1" | MB Cass City | 2025 State #124 Nation MI , MH Cass City – First Team
Ignash helped lead the Red Hawks to the D3 semifinals with 518 kills on the season. She also approached 100 blocks and tallied 328 digs. At 6’2”, Ignash has great movement along the net for a sophomore middle.
Aubree Calloway Aubree Calloway 5'9" | OH Bronson | 2025 State MI , MH Bronson – Second Team
The next in line of strong hitters for the Bronson program, Calloway utilizes her athleticism at the net well to finish points at a high rate. She’s patient in her attacks, and also has good footwork to make timely plays defensively. She also has a serve that poses a lot of problems.
Avery Nance Avery Nance 5'4" | DS/L Traverse City St. Francis | 2025 State MI , L/DS TC St. Francis – Third Team
Nance also can play the setter position, but her intuition as a libero is what makes her an All-State player. She’s been able to dig up a lot of powerful attacks and make it look easy. She glides along the back row and keeps her eyes moving to make key defensive plays.
Payton Springstead, MH Bronson – Third Team
Springstead pairs with Calloway to make for a dynamic pair of middles for the Vikings. Springstead has a little more size to be able to provide a long reach. She can get to attacks well above her blockers. She also scrambles well at the net to win those 50-50 balls and get a lot of touches on opposing attacks.
Sophia Kellogg, OH Plymouth Christian – Third Team
Kellogg is a smooth outside that is well-coached and makes a lot of high-IQ plays for an underclassman. She’s got a variety of speeds and swings, and has shown the ability to finish from the front row and back row consistently.
Division 4
Ella Deklyen Ella Deklyen 5'9" | OH Tri-unity Christian | 2025 State MI , MH Tri-Unity Christian – First Team
Deklyen was Third Team All-State a year ago and jumped up to First Team in 2022. She’s very explosive off the ground and always seems in sync with her setter. She’s got a great vertical that allows her attacks to come at a sharp angle with a lot of speed. Her blocking instincts are also at a high level.
Nora Proos, OH Our Lady of the Lake – Third Team
Proos couldn’t be denied this season, as she earned her conference’s Player of the Year honor as a sophomore. She’s quick on her feet and a determined player. She can finish at a high rate with an explosive first step on her attacks, but her quickness makes her a top-level defensive talent as well.
