Westminster pushed Platte County into the 3rd place match with a 19-25, 25-22, 25-20, and 25-14 win. The Red Knights had an easier time with Webb City 25-17, 25-18, and 25-12 in the other semifinal. Incarnate Word has crashed the party and will look for the school’s 12th title in 16 championship appearances. At the time of this article, I’m not sure how Platte County and Webb City would finish the 3rd place match. It was too late for me, and I had to cut out early.
Tara Greenberry Tara Greenberry 6'3" | MB Incarnate Word | 2025 State #117 Nation MO – 2025 – Middle – Incarnate Word Academy
Here’s a player you look at and know the kids, a ball bouncer. The 6’3″ sophomore is a significant presence at the net and not only a shutdown blocker and ball terminator, but she alters many attackers. In the semifinal win, Tara had a .400 hitting percentage with 14 kills on 25 attempts. Add two blocks and the numerous touches Greenberry will need to stand tall at the net in the finals if they want to dethrone Westminster.
Emma Fairchild Emma Fairchild 5'10" | OH Westminster Christian | 2023 State MO – 2023 – Opposite – Westminster Christian
Another big performance will be essential for Westminster to repeat. Late in the third set, with the match close, Emma would get three kills out of the last five points to help her team pull out the third set. Each rip was a deadly line shot for the winner. She would hit .371 with 16 kills and add two blocks.
Ava Wheeler and Jenna Wheeler – 2024 – Defense – Platte County
Not a knock on Platte County’s offense, but these two defenders were a fun duo to watch pass and play defense. Both are hard-nosed defenders and passing machines. They would scoop up 40 balls between the two and take most of the passes.
Kate Brownfield – 2023 – Outside – Webb City
The senior outside was one of the bright spots in the Cardinal’s first trip to the final four. With a loss to IWA 17-25, 18-25, and 12-25, Brownfield finished with 13 kills.
Alexis Frazier – 2024 – Setter – Westminster
One of only a few juniors on the team, Frazier was a master feeding the pins tonight. She would finish with 28 assists and 15 digs in the win. It was Frazier toward the end of the 2nd and 3rd sets that found the hot hitters to give her team a cushion to pull out the semifinal win over Platte County.
