One of the best sophomores in the state, Maya proved that in Class 5 final four. Tied with the most kills in Class 5 with 38, she would have 21 in the semifinal 3-1 win over Liberty North and added 17 in the championship win 3-1 over Kickapoo.
Anna Kraemer – 2023 – Middle – Lafayette
Anna had a tremendous final four. The 6’1” middle for the Lancers came to play in her final campaign and had four kills and five blocks in the semifinal win over Liberty North. In the championship, she came to life and put down 12 kills, hit .435, and had two blocks helping her team win the championship for the first time since 2016.
Allison Risley Allison Risley 5'11" | OH Lafayette | 2024 State #187 Nation MO – 2024 – Opposite – Lafayette
Lafayette has depth, and Risley is only a tiny part of a significant return for the Lancers next year. A big-time player provided Lafayette with deadly attacks on the opposite pin and finished the final four with eight kills in the semifinal and then exploded in the championship with 17 kills, hit .364, 17 digs, and two blocks. Risley will be returning next year, looking for a repeat.
Bella Faria Bella Faria 5'10" | OH Kickapoo | 2024 State MO – 2024 – Outside – Kickapoo
Faria is a big-time performer for the Chiefs and one of many reasons they would make it to the championship. In the five-set win over St. Dominic in the semifinals, she contributed 16 kills and nine digs. In the championship with Lafayette, she had 11 kills and 19 digs. Faria and the Chiefs are built for a final-four return next year.
Kya Johnson – 2023 – Libero – Kickapoo
One of the best defenders all weekend came from Kickapoo’s Kya Johnson. In the semifinals against St. Dominic, she would finish with 16 and had two monster saves in the 5th set. In the championship loss to Lafayette, she scooped up some huge digs and ended with 33.
Carlie Cisneros Carlie Cisneros 6'0" | OH Liberty North | 2024 State #7 Nation MO – 2024 – Outside – Liberty North
The kid is a baller, and I was so glad I got to watch her play this year. If you’ve not watched her play in person you are missing out. The ball control and volleyball IQ is phenomenal. Her jump serve fantastic and her out of system attacks are more deadly than her in-system attacks. In the semifinals with Lafayette, she finished with 20 kills and 17 digs; in the 3rd place match, she had 18 kills and 29 digs. She literally will go down in Missouri history.
Alyssa Nelson Alyssa Nelson 5'8" | S Wildwood | 2024 State MO – 2024 – Setter – Lafayette
Nelson runs a quick offense, feeds her pin hitters the perfect ball for line shots, or gets her middle one-on-one. She could be a tremendous libero if she weren’t a tremendous setter. She put up ridiculous numbers in the championship run with 51 assists and 16 digs in the semifinals and then 55 assists and 21 digs in the championship.
Abigail Christian Abigail Christian 5'9" | DS/L Liberty North | 2023 State MO – 2023 – Libero – Liberty North
My other favorite libero was Abby for the Eagles, as she gave her offense plenty of opportunity for kills. With the loss to Lafayette, Christian had 24 digs and added 23 in the 3rd place win over St. Dominic.
Kayla Robertson Kayla Robertson 6'0" | MB St. Dominic | 2024 State MO – 2024 – Outside – St. Dominic
St. Dominic has a ton returning, and look for them to make a fourth straight trip to the final four with Robertson leading the charge. In the semifinals loss Robertson put down 17 kills and had five digs. In the 3rd place loss to Liberty North she added 13 kills. One of my favorites since her first year, the Kansas State recruit, is a big bruiser on the outside.
Anna Kohmetscher – 2024 – Outside – St. Dominic
The high flying outside for the Crusaders was a fun player to watch. Though her team didn’t win either match at state, her team was a pleasure to watch. In the five-set loss to Kickapoo in the semifinals, she had 12 kills and five digs. She would finish in the 3rd place match with ten kills and five digs.
