There have been some amazing tournaments and great district battles. We have been talking to coaches, reading tons of stats, and getting lots of video submissions from parents and players regarding how everyone has fared over the course of the season. As we are now into the playoffs, we will be discussing some players who are being nominated for our Prep Dig Texas All-State Awards. Our end-of-season awards are going to be different because we are going to consider all divisions/conferences together and pick the best of the best. The Setters we will be discussing have been tearing it up and proving themselves all season long with some amazing statistics. Let’s meet some of the nominees:
Reagan Sawyer [2023] 5-11 Outside (HS: Round Rock Christian/Club: Austin Juniors/ Verbal: Uncommitted)
Reagan is an unranked prospect in the 2023 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays for Round Rock Christian High School and also for Austin Juniors Volleyball club. She has tallied 1,341 assists during her senior season, which is tied for the most amongst seniors in all of Texas. This year she was wheeling and dealing the ball all around the court to all of her teammates. She is a fantastic jump server who stifles the opposition with her jump float. I also like how she uses that vertical during setting also. She jump sets and keeps the blockers thinking with it. She has great form and technique throughout each location and tempo. Reagan is one big reason why her varsity squad went 46-4 overall and also a perfect 12-0 in district. Please congratulate her on being nominated for an All-State award.
Ellie Mattox Ellie Mattox 5'11" | S Vandegrift | 2023 State TX [2023] 5-11 Setter (HS: Vandergrift/Club: Austin Juniors/Verbal: Dartmouth)
Ellie is currently ranked as the 59th best overall prospect in the 2023 class in the entire state of Texas. She plays at Vandergrift High School and also club for the nationally recognized Austin Juniors program. Miss Mattox is tied for the most assists amongst seniors this year, which sits at 1,341. There is a reason she was named captain of her squad. She is an extension of her coach on the court and her teammates follow her lead. Ellie is a legit threat to score with her left hand when she is in the front row and she moves the ball all around the court with it. She is super aggressive as a setter and excels at pushing the tempo to all locations. I love her fire and determination when she plays the game and think all younger setters can learn from her if they are lucky enough to watch. The Dartmouth commit is fun to watch and we are proud of her. Please congratulate her on being nominated for an All-State award.
Olivia Mulholland [2023] 5-5 Setter (HS: Brazoswood/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Olivia is currently an unranked prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays at Brazoswood High School which is about an hour south of Houston. She currently has the third most assists amongst all seniors in the state with 1200 total. Don’t let her size fool you. This youngster can ball. She is one of the main reasons why her squad had a 25-17 overall record. She also contributed 321 digs on the year to go along with 38 aces. She has a great nose for the ball defensively and her team kept her in the front row quite a bit due to her awesome placement of the ball with her hands. I also love how she is able to pursue the ball during out of system plays. She used her platform very well to still deliver the ball to her attackers. We love the production that she showed during her awesome senior season and are proud to have her on the list of nominees. Please congratulate her on being nominated for an All-State award.
