Continue ReadingThe 2022 High School season has been amazing so far! Along with our readers, we have been on pins and needles watching teams battle all season long. There have been some amazing tournaments and great district battles. We have been talking to coaches, reading tons of stats, and getting lots of video submissions from parents and players regarding how everyone has fared over the course of the season. As we are now into the playoffs, we will be discussing some players who are being nominated for our inaugural Prep Dig California All-State Awards. Our end-of-season awards are going to be different because we are going to consider all divisions/conferences together and pick the best of the best. The Outsides we will be discussing have been tearing it up and proving themselves all season long with some amazing statistics. Let’s meet some of the nominees:
Julia Tolstova Julia Tolstova 5'11" | OH Redlands | 2024 State CA [2024] 5-11 Outside (HS: Redlands/Club: Rancho Valley VBC/ Verbal: Uncommitted)
Julia is currently ranked as the 31st best overall prospect in the 2024 Class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings. She plays for Redlands High School and also for Rancho Valley Volleyball club. Miss Tolstova has already tallied 541 kills on a wonderful .311 hitting percentage. She has been scoring in bunches all year long and is no stranger to receiving accolades on the volleyball court. She packs a serious punch and when she makes contact on the ball everyone in the gym can hear it. Her strong frame and solid upper body allow her to put some force behind every attack. I really love how explosive she is on her last two steps. It really adds so much momentum into her approach and brings a lot of extra force behind each attack. We are happy to have one more year covering her career. This year alone she has tallied 216 digs, 41 aces, and also 24 total blocks. We are very proud to have her on the nomination list Please congratulate her on earning a nomination for an All-State Award.
Ximena Cordero Ximena Cordero 5'10" | OH Otay Ranch | 2024 State CA [2024] 5-10 Outside (HS: Otay Ranch/Club: Coast/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Ximena is currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 Class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings. She plays at Otay Ranch High School and also club for the nationally ranked Coast volleyball program. She has tallied 596 kills on a phenomenal .369 hitting percentage. It has been a wonderful career for Miss Cordero so far and last year her varsity squad rode her back to their very first state title. This year is more of the same as her golden right arm has them in contention yet again. When you have a hitting percentage like that, it means that you don’t make a lot of errors. This young lady is a stone cold assassin on the court who has been chomping at the bits to play since she was a little young lady. She is now a grown young adult and is not letting any opportunity get wasted as she has averaged high double-digit kills in every match. She also added 27 blocks, 196 digs, and an astonishing 85 aces on the year. This kind of offensive production has our eyes opened and it’s the biggest reason why we have chosen to nominate her for an All-State Award.
Madison Triplett Madison Triplett 5'9" | OH El Capitan | 2024 State #149 Nation CA [2024] 5-10 Outside (HS: El Capitan/Club: Coast/ Verbal: UC at Santa Barbara)
Madison is currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 Class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings, but has been on our watch list for a while now. She should have no problem being ranked once I update them in a few weeks. She plays for El Capitan High School and also for the amazing Coast program. Miss Triplett has already tallied 510 kills on a wonderful .284 hitting percentage. She has eclipsed every statistical category from last year to this year letting everyone know just how polished she is becoming. We as coaches talk a lot about creating momentum with our approach in order to help gain more power on our attacks and more height in our vertical. This can be seen in every attempt that Madison tries. She masters the art of timing her last two steps in order to speed up and create momentum. Although slightly smaller than most pins, she has great hang time and hits the ball at the peak of her jump to stay potent on offense. She has earned a nomination for one of our All-State awards by what she has done all around the court. She has also tallied 31 blocks, 51 aces and 251 digs. Please congratulate her on the nomination.
There are many more amazing players that will be nominated. Stay tuned for more articles on your favorite athletes to see who ends up with a chance at one of the prestigious awards.
