When the dust settled from each of the four polls, we put the top four finishers into a final 16 player poll. Just shy of 120,000 votes later and Riley Roberts Riley Roberts 5'10" | S Norman North | 2023 State OK from Norman North came out as the top vote getter. I then sent her some questions to allow y’all to get to know her a little better.
Here is a little bit about her from my perspective. Riley is predominantly a setter but she really can do it all. She has been called on to put on a multitude of hats in her career. Her work ethic, competitiveness and energy is hard to match. Add all these things together and you get a player that will be an impact player her entire high school career, be on some top notch club teams and have the ability to move on to the next level. Well she checked all of those boxes now. She was on some of the best high school and club teams in the state each year. Next year she will be staying close to home and playing for the University of Central Oklahoma. UCO went 24-7 this season while also beating multiple top 20 teams in the nation. She was a big pick up for this top tier program and are really excited to see what she can do for them.
Question 1: When and how did you start playing volleyball?
“I started playing rec volleyball at 5 years old and club at 8 years old. My mom was a coach, so I was always around volleyball and wanted to get involved. I fell in love with the sport and I have been playing ever since.”
Question 2: What has meant the most to you in volleyball during your high school career?
“The relationships I have made and helping my team win have meant the most to me in my high school career.”
Question 3: Did you have a player that you looked up to in the program?
“When I was in middle school, I always looked up to Maci Milligan. She was the setter at Norman North and ran the court very well.”
Question 4: What made you decide on UCO?
“I chose UCO because I love the coaching staff, the amazing facilities, and the fact that it is close to home.”
Question 5: What advice would you give to younger players in the state?
“The advice I would give to the younger girls in the state is to enjoy the moment, always work hard, and be the best leader that you can be.”
Question 6: What do you think Oklahoma needs to do to help keep moving volleyball forward?
“Keep hiring respectable coaches and keeping environments competitive. Possibly moving tryouts to the end of club season, so club teams can get into the best tournaments/qualifiers possible.”
Her answers match her personality. Understanding the importance in competitive practices and being a great leader for your team. She will definitely be missed by the T-Wolves and welcomed by the Bronchos!
