It did not disappoint.
The Jaguars advanced in a five-set thriller. The court was flush with talent.
Here are some athletes who stood out:
Mackenzie Dean
Mackenzie Dean
The 6-foot-2 Dean stalks the front row with a purpose, but it doesn’t end there. She contributes all over the floor as evidenced by her line of 16 kills, 14 digs, 6 blocks 2 service aces and an assist in this match illustrated. Her agility and long arms stand out.
Tallman and Mackenzie Dean complement each other well along the Maroon front row. Tallman’s big swing resulted in 12 kills during this contest. She added a service ace and four digs. Tallman chipped in with five blocks. She does a nice job timing her swings and rising up to deny opponents at the net.
Muller served notice that she’ll be a presence for the next three seasons. The fabulous freshman led her team in blocks this year, adding a team-high eight to her ’22 total in this match. She added four kills, two digs and an assist in showing she’s more than just a tall girl up front.
Frischmeyer paced the Maroons in kills on this day, hammering home 19. She did so with efficiency, clocking a .350 clip on her attempts. Her impressive vertical leap helps her play above her listed height of 5-9. She added three digs and a block for good measure. The swing is pretty.
A steady force in the back row, Ibach controls pace well and passes with precision. She provided a team-high 20 digs on this day. She chipped in with five assists and a pair of service aces. Her quick reflexes and lateral movement are impressive.
One of the better sophomores I’ve seen this season, Pratt’s athleticism is off the charts. She explodes off the floor and swings with cruel intentions. Oh yeah, she fills the stat sheet. In this match, Pratt contributed 12 kills, seven blocks, eight digs, two assists and a pair of service aces.
Another superior sophomore for the Jaguars, Miller shares many traits with her classmate, Jaeden Pratt Jaeden Pratt MB Ankeny Centennial | 2025 State IA . She also rises up with ease and lowers the boom with a swing at the top of her jump. She paced Centennial in blocks with 13 in this match. She chipped in with two service aces, a dig and a block.
Angus provides her hitters with consistent sets they can use. She mixes up her offerings to keep the defense on its heels. She registered a match-best 28 assists in this victory. She also recorded 15 digs, a kill, a block and a service ace
Bechen is fun to watch. She covers the court like a blanket and consistently digs out most balls directed at her. She turns them into usable passes and does a great job keeping her team in system. She piled up a match-high 31 digs to go with four assists and two service aces against Dowling.
