Here’s a look at some players who stood out during the match:
An outstanding high school career came to an end here, but Van Hook went down with a fight. The senior delivered 44 assists, 12 kills, 18 digs, three blocks and a service ace. If they asked her to sell popcorn during the match, she probably could have accomplished it, too. She’s a splendid mix of power and finesse.
Another wonderful high school career came to an end with this match. Johnson has been a force for the Wolves. She showed that in this match with 21 kills and 21 digs. Her swings are forceful and accurate. She moves around the court with ease. She’s an excellent athlete.
Hartman sticks out for her all-around skill set. She displayed it in this match, which saw her roll up seven assists and 27 digs. She handles pace expertly and her passes are on the money. She moves well laterally and shows sharp reflexes.
Highlights
The Drake commitment made her presence felt on the big stage. Beck cranked out 12 kills and added three blocks. Her length stands out but she matches it with excellent athleticism. She shows good lateral movement and a nice vertical. She times her swings very well, creating a lot of torque when she connects.
Averie Lower
Averie Lower
Lower turned heads in her first state tournament match. She paced the Clippers with 19 kills to go with 15 digs. She added a pair of service aces for good measure. She plays like she belongs, showing no nerves despite her age. She can sky and puts velocity on the ball when she connects. She doesn’t come off the court in rotation, highlighting her versatility.
Berkland is the glue holding Clear Creek Amana together. She’s a wall in the back row and adept at passing hot shots sent her way. In this match, she shined with 37 digs and five assists. She also added a kill. You won’t find many better liberos across the state.
