Some are already team leaders, while others are showing potential to be stars very soon.
Here’s a look at the standout underclassmen that competed for the D2 title in Battle Creek last weekend.
North Branch
Aubree Deshetsky Aubree Deshetsky 5'9" | OH North Branch | 2026 State MI , Fr. OH: The Broncos were loaded with underclassmen last year in a run to the D2 final. This year, an experienced group of juniors and seniors added in an extremely talented freshman. Deshetsky was a star on a big stage this past weekend. In the semifinal vs. South Christian, Deshetsky had a team-high 13 kills (.294) to go along with 10 digs and an ace. In the final with Cadillac, the freshman had a team-high 13 kills (.256) to go with 14 digs and an ace.
Cadillac
Cassie Jenema, Soph. S: Setter at Cadillac is a big role to have to fill, but Jenema showed a lot of skills and poise in Battle Creek. In the semifinal, Jenema had 32 assists, 11 digs and two aces for the Vikings. In the final, Jenema finished with 30 assists, 17 digs and four assisted blocks. She’s going to help keep Cadillac in the D2 mix next year.
GR South Christian
Finley Arp Finley Arp 6'0" | OH South Christian | 2026 State MI , Fr. OH: Following in the shoes of senior Kenney Arp, Finley looks to be a future star for South Christian. She had seven kills (.267), four digs and an assist in the semifinal against North Branch. Already with impressive length and movement, Arp has a high ceiling as she grows her shot selection and court IQ.
Olivia in’tHout, Soph. DS/L: South Christian had a tall defensive task against North Branch, but in’tHout did her part to keep the Sailors in the match. She had a team-high 11 digs to go with three assists.
Lily Nitz, Soph. RS: Nitz saw action in all three sets and got a few swings in the offensive rotation. In the semifinal she recorded a kill and a dig for the Sailors.
Dearborn Divine Child
Ruby Morrow, Soph. DS: Morrow was an active piece of the Divine Child defense against Cadillac. She tallied 15 digs, which was second on the team. She also added a pair of aces.
