From Wednesday to Sunday, the four regional champions in each of the state’s six divisions will battle for the state title.
As we prepare for the tournament, it’s a good opportunity for us to feature some of the most intriguing players from each of the 24 teams that will compete this week in Garland. We’ve been highlighting the top players to watch (one from each team) in each of the six divisions and, on the second day of the series, let’s look at division 3A.
Players To Watch
Kaela Neie
Kaela Neie
Bushland will be looking for a three-peat this week and Neie is one of the players who were part of the team in their victories over the last two seasons. An outside hitter with a great combination of size and skills, she has great technique and shows strong determination to make the right technical actions regardless of the situation. Neie is also a heavy point scorer and she uses her length and her reach well to succeed when the team is out-of-system.
Miranda Putnicki
Miranda Putnicki
It’s hard to look away from a prospect that stands at 6’4″ and even less one with Putnicki’s skillset. She’s a player that knows to use her size to make an impact at the net and offers Gunter an asset that not many other teams have. Blocking is easily Putnicki’s main strength as she’s not only tall and long, but also has great timing and technique to stop shots at the net. She’s also a solid defensive player.
Kellen Dorotik
Kellen Dorotik
A six-footer, Dorotik brings great firepower to East Bernard’s offense on the right side of the net. She’s very tall and strong, but, as a lefty, is also capable of finding unlikely angles from the right, which helps her score in transition or when out-of-system. Dorotik is very well-rounded on offense, a productive blocker and also a solid defensive player.
