In this article:
The school season has just finished up, champions were crowned, and club volleyball tryouts are in full swing. Let’s take a minute to look back at some of the best pin hitters from the state of Oklahoma this season.
These players will be put into a poll to vote, which the state of Oklahoma thinks was the best overall.
Maren Johnson Maren Johnson 6'0" | OH Jenks | 2024 State OK – Jenks
Maren played outstanding last year in the state finals! Truly set herself apart from the pack. She transitions fast and gives herself and her team every opportunity possible, when she is set, to score. She has been a star for this high level program for years already. She will likely have her name become part of some school records when it is all said and done.
Olivia Vance Olivia Vance 5'10" | OH Bixby | 2023 State OK – Bixby
She has committed to play at JMU next season and was voted as an All-State player. She is a 6 rotation player who contributes in every aspect of the game. Her high level club play has really helped raise her IQ. She is able to read and anticipate the play at a higher and quicker level. She was a huge reason for Bixby’s rise into the top 10.
Ella Drake Ella Drake 5'11" | OH Regent | 2023 State OK – Regent Prep
Ella has been apart of four straight trips to the state tournaments. She is the a huge part of why the Rams are always a dominant small school team. She has a heavy arm and wide range, this makes the whole court an option for her. Beth Bayless moved onto OU this past season and Ella stepped up in a big way with more weight placed on her. She was voted as an All-State player.
Landry Braziel Landry Braziel 6'0" | OH Community Christian | 2024 State OK – Community Christian
Landry has been an impact player every single year and a huge reason CCS has won two state titles and one runner up in her three years. She has such a high touch point that some blockers become almost useless in front of her. She will be very driven her senior year to get back to the title match and bring back the gold.
Curry Kendall Curry Kendall 6'1" | OH Bishop Kelley | 2024 State OK – Bishop Kelley
Curry has recently committed to play at Indiana State. She still has more season to hone her skills and build her stats. For her to etch her name in the record books at BK would be something special, especially considering some of the name to pass through the storied program. She is likely to do just that though! Can’t wait to see what senior year has in store.
Ally Fees Ally Fees 5'11" | OH Mt. St. Mary | 2024 State OK – Mount St. Mary
Ally was voted as an All-State player. She ran such an up-tempo attack from the left side, that it put middles and defenses in a terrible position. She made huge plays then entire state tournament. Just as a team would get some momentum, she would get a huge block or monster kill. That would quickly put a halt to it and start to swing it back to MSM. MSM is now back to back state champs. The standard Ally has help set will lead to even more titles down the road.
Katie Kolar Katie Kolar 5'3" | S Norman North | 2023 State OK – Norman North
Katie is left handed menace to opposing teams. Do you worry about her hitting? Yes. Do you worry about her Setting? Yes. Do you worry about her digging? Yes. She is someone who can do it all. She has a great vertical, high IQ, solid mechanics, and a fierce drive to win. She is a West Virginia commit and will join fellow Oklahoma player, Tierney Jackson. She was also voted as an All-State player.
Grace Smallwood Grace Smallwood 5'7" | OH Bishop McGuiness | 2023 State OK – Bishop McGuinness
I have always been a big fan of Grace Smallwood Grace Smallwood 5'7" | OH Bishop McGuiness | 2023 State OK . She has a lot of characteristics that I want my players to have. She picks her times to use power and to use control, doesn’t get to high or too low, and is always looking to make the situation the best she can. She is definitely someone to spark your team and someone to build a culture around.
Arriana Brown– Booker T. Washington
Possibly the best freshman in the state! She has been a phenom since she was in middle school. She has such good body control and athleticism for only a freshman. If this is her starting point, her ending point is scary to imagine. Look for BTW to continue to learn new ways to utilize her and help build a program around her.
Paiton Tuggle– Lincoln Christian
Arguably the player with the best performance at the state tournament this season. She averaged 20 kills per match for the state tournament. She was even more clutch in the finals against Community Christian. She had 27 kills to help dethrone CCS and help give LC the state title.
