The Class of 2024 was heavily represented for the event. Here’s the first set of player evaluations for the class.
Trista Ameel Trista Ameel 5'10" | DS/L Romeo | 2024 State MI , DS/L Romeo/Michigan Elite
At 5’10”, Ameel looks even longer on the court. She uses her length well to get to a lot of attacks. Ameel was also a very encouraging and vocal player that was giving her all with each rep and point.
Angelina Azbell Angelina Azbell 6'0" | RS Holly | 2024 State MI , RS Holly/High Performance
Azbell was someone that seemed tentative at first, but started to tap into some aggression as the event went on. She was in a zone with her hitting for a bit and was finding ways to make plays even when not getting a great set.
Olivia Behen Olivia Behen 5'5" | DS/L Saline | 2024 State MI , DS/L Saline/L2
Behen brought a lot of what you want in a libero. She was vocal and assertive with the plays that came her way. She had a lot of command in the back row and was a consistently strong server.
Devin Brunk Devin Brunk 5'10" | OH Lake Orion | 2024 State MI , OH Lake Orion/High Performance
Brunk is a hitter that has a distinctive pop in her attacks when she makes good contact. She generates a lot of power and wasn’t shy to attack a big block. Brunk also corrected her errors quickly and didn’t make the same mistake twice.
Grace Burg Grace Burg 6'0" stockbridge | 2024 MI , OH Stockbridge/MSF
You never could question Burg’s effort. She was working tirelessly on the court, really battling at the net for 50-50 balls. When things weren’t going her way, she didn’t let it deter her and came back with more energy the next rep or play.
Angie Butler Angie Butler 5'10" | OH Mercy | 2024 State MI , OH Mercy/Michigan Elite
Butler was one that had some of the best hang time of the entire Expo. She could soar through the air and it led to a lot of explosive kills. Along with her power, Butler showed a good mix of offspeed attacks to consistently find a home against her opponents.
Sophie Crawford Sophie Crawford 6'1" | S Gull Lake | 2024 State MI , S Gull Lake/Dead Frog
Crawford was very consistent and smooth with her delivery. She played her role very well with a variety of hitters. Crawford was very adaptable to each hitter she worked with.
Ryah Dewey Ryah Dewey 5'10" | OH Walled Lake Western | 2024 MI , OH Walled Lake Western/Team Detroit
Dewey stayed with a play and was able to come through with some nice digs and attacks by staying focused and keeping her head on a swivel. She communicated well on the floor as well and handled out-of-system balls very well.
Monique Diehl Monique Diehl 6'2" | MB Grass Lake | 2024 State MI , MH Grass Lake/Michigan Elite
At 6’2”, Diehl was a big force with her blocking throughout the Expo. She was getting her hands on a lot of attacks and making life easier for her passers. Diehl had good power in her swings despite being a bit delayed in her takeoff. As she continues to trust in her athleticism, Diehl could be a real force.
Kenzie Duncan Kenzie Duncan 5'4" Columbia Central | 2024 MI , DS/L Columbia Central/MSF
Duncan stayed very light on her feet and made sure she was never still. She was on her toes and ready to make plays in an instant. Her defensive play was very instinctive and her passing was accurate.
Emma Dunn Emma Dunn 5'7" | DS/L Chippewa Valley | 2024 MI , DS/L Chippewa Valley/Team 27
Dunn was a little lightning bolt on the court. She was very, very quick and covered a lot of ground with her high motor. She had good form on her serve receive as well.
Molly Edmunds Molly Edmunds 5'10" | S Trenton | 2024 State MI , S Trenton/Michigan Elite
Edmunds was a very controlled player. You never felt like she was overwhelmed and had complete control of her sets and offensive pacing. Edmunds also had another gear she could turn to when the play got really competitive.
