Some athletes were just discovered over the last couple months but there will be plenty of content to come about them. I hope you join us in honoring these up-and-coming players for all of their grit and hard work over the years. It might have taken a little longer for us to find them, but they went from unranked to exploding onto the scene. Here are five of the newest athletes to make their way onto our Minnesota 2023 rankings.
I would like to welcome Lauren Wherry Lauren Wherry 5’8″ | S Marshall | 2023 State MN to the 2023 Minnesota State Rankings at #99. Wherry caught my eye at the Eagle Invite and since then she has earned a Class AAA State Championship and earned Class AAA State All-Tournament Team and Class AAA All-State Team. Wherry is a setter who is talented, hardworking and has a smooth release of the ball. She is highly fluid from her footwork, body position, and follow through. Wherry knows just how to feed her pin hitters and work the opposing blockers.
Swenson is another athlete that we found this fall. She was highly dangerous and lethal from the outside pin at the Class AA Showcase. Swenson earned herself Class AA All-State Team and recently earned a spot on the MN Attack 18-1 team. She can unleash a freaky fast arm swing at the peak of her approach, and it leaves defenders speechless. Swenson can use her hangtime to wait for the ball to cross her before taking a big swing down the line.
McTeague made her way onto the rankings after standing out at the Class AA Showcase this fall. She then landed a spot on the Northern Lights 18-2s team for this winter as well as committing to play at Carthage. McTeague is really good at hitting the high ball and terminating the out of system ball. She operates as a natural leader and is an exciting athlete to watch. She helped lead Concordia Academy to a 4th place finish in the Class AA State Tournament.
Highlights
Reese has been battle tested and showed what she can do. She came flying onto my radar at the Class A Showcase and then proceeded to earn Class A State All-Tournament Team and Class A All-State Team. Reese is a leader by action and has some crazy awesome hops. She has no problem bouncing the ball off defenders. If she gets picked up at the next level, you should get ready to hear her name for a long time.
We are so excited to add an athlete like Majchrzak to the rankings. I saw her at the Class AA Showcase, and she impressed with strong approach and high IQ for placement of the ball. She also when on a nice serving run while I was watching. Majchrzak earned Class AA All-State Team honors and recently made her way onto the Kandi Elite 18-1 team. She will be a fun player to watch for as she heads to Mayville State in the fall.
