Some of the athletes listed may have played multiple positions on the court, but we have chosen them for the positions that we think they excelled at the most. We watched tons of matches this year and covered a lot of athletes in order to determine who was the best of the best. All of the wonderful players made it very difficult to decide both nominees and who eventually won due to their performances. Please help us congratulate these winners of our prestigious All-State Awards.
1st Team All State Selection: Middle
Darla Crow [2023] 5-11 Middle (HS: Ryan/Club: Frisco Flyers/ Verbal: Uncommitted)
Darla is an unranked prospect in the 2023 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays for Denton Ryan High School and also club for Frisco Flyers. We profiled her last month and stated the following, “She has been dominant this season out of the middle. Darla has tallied 186 total bocks and 140 of them were solo blocks. Offensively she had 411 kills on a .301 hitting percentage to go along with 21 aces 116 digs on the year. I love how she rises up off of the ground so effortlessly. Her hang time has wreaked havoc on opposing blockers as it makes it very difficult for them to stop her. Her strength while hitting quicks is the fact that she can turn in mid air and demolish the ball to both corners to the weak side of the defense.” We looked all over the state and couldn’t find a middle who had as much of an impact on their team than Miss Crow did. She did it all for Denton Ryan high school and is going to leave a lasting impact on future middles to go through their program. Not only did she score a lot, but she did it at a very high clip which makes her lethal. If that wasn’t all, she decimated opposing offenses by sealing the net on the blocking end. Because of this we have chosen her to our 1st Team All-State team. Please help us congratulate her on the honor.
1st Team All State Selection: Middle
Avery Wilks Avery Wilks 6'0" | MB Barbers Hill | 2023 State TX [2023] 6-0 Middle (HS: Barbers Hill/Club: Houston Stellar/ Verbal: Uncommitted)
Avery is currently listed as the 82nd best overall prospect according to our 2023 Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She is a talented middle from Barbers Hill High School and also from Houston Stellar Volleyball club. Here is a little from our previous article when she was nominated, “Avery has had another superb season as she has amassed 338 kills on a wonderfully efficient .373 hitting percentage. When you add the fact that she had 55 aces, 59 digs, and an astounding 122 total blocks you can see how she helped her squad to a 40-7 overall record and an amazing 13-1 district record.” We have taken notice and it was a no brainer that she should be awarded 1st Team All-State. Her footwork is superb patrolling the net and that is why she was so problematic to opposing attackers. I have seen her in action and she steals the show. That is exactly what she did during her senior season and it is the reason why she was awarded this honor. Please help us congratulate her on earning 1st Team All-State.
