Everyone is taking a little break for the holidays and will get back to full power on the first weekend of January, so we’re taking the week to feature some of the 18s teams from the Houston area that we believe have the potential to make really good things over the next few months.
TAV Houston 18 Adidas
The top 18s team from the popular TAV Houston club located in the region of Spring started the season strong, finishing second in the FAST Warm Up with a campaign of five wins and just one loss. One of the strengths of this team is the versatility of some of their players, most notably Olivia Waggoner and the twins Emmalynn and Abigail Montes Abigail Montes 6'0" | S Kingwood | 2023 TX .
Key Players
An addition coming from the Woodlands Revolution, Campbell was slotted immediately in TAV Houston 18 Adidas’ starting lineup. A dynamic offensive player, she boosted the team’s scoring efforts with her powerful and highly-efficient game. Campell is set a lot because she often puts the ball on the floor and she always seems to be physically and mentally ready for yet another swing. She’s a really impressive player to watch because of the high-energy game she plays but is also extremely well-rounded and complete on the court.
Greene is another player coming from an excellent high school season as her effort and efficient game played a big part in Lake Creek’s run to the State Tournament. She likes to run a fast-paced offense and her high volleyball IQ and understanding of the game take it to another level. Her intelligence also impacts other areas of the game as she’s frequently in the right spot to make plays and that gives her plenty of touches on defense. She’s a setter that gives her teams a lot and works hard without making much noise, but is truly instrumental to their success.
Ava Martindale
Ava Martindale
Martindale has developed a reputation for being one of the most reliable and productive players in the area. She’s always very focused on the task at hand and consistently delivers inch-perfect passes in serve-receive. Her mobility and quickness on the backcourt significantly expand her defensive range and make of Martindale a player who gets very involved in the game on the back. She’s very technical, does the little things well and can also impact the game with her serving.
Olivia Waggoner
Olivia Waggoner
Waggoner is another member of TAV Houston 18 Adidas who had a stellar high school season as she led her team Bridgeland to a deep playoff run. Waggoner is a very complete outside hitter, who can provide really anything her teams needs, from high scoring to consistent passing and defense. She made great strides with her game in her senior season and became much more reliable and confident on the court. Waggoner is also very smart with her decision-making and can play on the right as well.
Abigail ‘Abby’ Montes is another player who can play multiple roles on the court. Her primary position is setter, but her length and technical skills also allow her to make a great impact in the game when taking hitting duties. A lefty, she’s very smooth and calm on the ball while also using her length to add some craftiness to her playmaking. Her touch on the ball is very firm, which provides great accuracy in her locations. Montes is also very mobile and can help her team in a variety of ways, including with her blocking.
