Many of the best rising juniors in the Mid-Columbia Conference will be united on the 17 and under-team for the 2023 season. The Evergreen region has several solid teams that will compete for a National bid, Shockwave is a legitimate threat to win the honors in the 17 Division.
Key Players to Watch
This Shockwave team will be paced by setter and MCC MVP Dolven, a leader who knows how to win. She does an excellent job communicating and making sure the team is in sync on the court. Many of her attackers return from previous seasons, including Paige Sturing, Jenna Holm and Peyton Arland; Dolven has an excellent feel for finding each of them in good scoring matchups and is an experienced and smart setter.
Highlights
Callaway has dynamic defensive skills that would easily translate to libero, but she also has a strong swing and ability to score. She is quick enough to run down shots to the corners and tips along the net, and will hang in against big swings. Offensively she has a variety of shots in her toolbox, and does an nice outstanding scoring off the block. Callaway had an excellent school season for Chiawana and is another MCC all conference player on this team.
Highlights
Tornow was one of the leading scorers for Hanford this season, and another first team all-conference selection. Versatile enough to play any position along the front row, she also played in serve receive all year. Time spent playing sand with excellent 2026 prospect and sister Joely Tornow has given her soft hands and an extremely good feel for the game. A team captain for the Falcons, she should step into a leadership role for Shockwave as well.
Hailey has an excellent all around game, and played well for Connell helping the team to a state berth this past season. She has a float serve she places deep in the court, making defenders have to decide whether to play the ball or hope it runs long. Defensively she will go to the ground and make a diving dig, her ball control and passing have excellent placement and tempo. She varies her shots from the outside, dropping tips to the middle and driving hard shots on well located sets.

Gracie Moss
Gracie Moss
The exuberant and expressive Moss will help power the energy for Shockwave from her middle blocker spot. Jumpy and quick, she can get on top of a fast set and drive it to the floor with authority when the timing is right. Her athleticism carries over defensively, she works hard pin to pin and is a sudden leaper who gets off the floor easily to form a tough block.
Peyton Cox
Peyton Cox
A strong setter and defender, Cox was part of a Chiawana team that finished 13-3 and in second place during the MCC season. She is an accurate server, and ran off long runs in some tough matches for the Riverhawks. Cox has soft hands and does an outstanding job feeding her middles, keeping the ball off the net enough giving her attacker a chance to adjust and see the block.
