It also included three members of the Class of 2023 still working hard to make a name for themselves in front of college coaches.
Jordan Budzinski Jordan Budzinski 5'4" Berkley | 2023 MI , DS/L Berkley/Legacy
Budzinski is a blue collar defender that is coming off a great prep season with Berkley. In an Expo that featured a lot of top-level defensive talent, Budzinski held her own and really shined the more she came out of her shell. Her serving gave her an opportunity to show how she can be an impactful player on offense as well. Budzinski’s defensive skills were on point. She wasn’t the most technical in the group, or the fastest, but she was willing to take the bumps and bruises to make a play.
Ma’kayla Coats Ma’kayla Coats 5'7" | RS Pioneer | 2023 MI , RS Pioneer/Team Detroit
Coats is a prospect that still has a high ceiling. She’s a great natural athlete that brings a lot of intangibles to the position. At the Expo, her timing was a bit off at times, but when she was timing things up right, she delivered some very eye-opening kills. Coats can cover a lot of ground in the blink of an eye and she’s got a good swing. She also recognized when to mix in an offspeed shot well and was impressive with her defensive play. All the critical aspects one might find are easily coachable and can also come when Coats finds that next gear.
Sydney Moorer Sydney Moorer 5'7" | S Southfield Arts And Technology | 2023 MI , S Southfield A&T/Victors
Moorer was competing well with the talented setters at the Expo. She was a very focused and driven player that was taking any input to heart and striving to catch some eyes. Moorer had soft touch on her sets and mixed things up well to get her hitters in a good flow. Though she’s only 5’8”, she still was able to be a factor with her blocking and showed a lot of heart by battling at the net with some long opponents.
