We’re still looking at some new faces to make our latest edition of Nebraska’s Class of 2024 rankings. Be sure to check out Part 1 if you haven’t already. But, with so many players added in this update, we’re not done with these features yet!
Put simply, Kent was one of the best attacker that Class D1 had to offer this fall–and she still has another season left. The Cambridge standout put down over 300 kills this season on an impressive 0.278 clip, helping the Trojans put yet another postseason appearance on their docket.
Gothenburg had a variety of options at the setter spot heading into the 2022 season, but the Swedes wisely turned to Richeson to lead the way. The steady signal-caller simply had a knack for getting all of Gothenburg’s attacking options involved, and that yielded the school’s first-ever state tournament victories and a historic appearance in the Class C1 championship match.
Look out for the Chanticleers next year. Fox quietly racked up over nine assists per set this season and engineered a successful 20-12 season for Ord High School. This setter is bound to be a vital senior leader as Ord looks to replace some valuable production from its 2022 squad.
Welch and her Thayer Central squad made some serious waves this year. The Titans leaned on their starting libero in plenty of nail-biting matches, and Welch delivered with nearly a half-dozen 30-plus dig performances throughout the fall.
Johnson County Central is home to yet another small-town setter to keep on your radar. Cabrales led the Thunderbirds to a winning season this year and was on the cusp of making it to Lincoln for postseason play.
We’ll have a lot of setters to cover on this feature, but Brabec was one of state’s most effective in the 2024 class. She was one of just a few juniors who approached ten assists per set, and it’s no surprise that St. Mary’s returned to Lincoln behind Brabec’s savvy distribution. Expect more of the same next year.
Busteed has climbed up Nebraska’s assists leaderboards this fall, a sign that she has truly taken the reins at setter for Elgin/Pope John. The Wolfpack put together an impressive 21-9 campaign this fall behind Busteed’s smooth sets and relentless right-back defense.
Foote is another multi-talented athlete who stood out at last weekend’s expo. Her physicality has paid off in a variety of athletic venues for Scottsbluff, but she has really made her mark on the volleyball court as a versatile frontcourt attacker. The Bearcats are no stranger to hidden gems, and Foote looks like another one in the program.
Kopocis has earned a recent shoutout on this site before, and her presence on the Douglas County West roster will be a huge factor in getting the Falcons back to the Big Dance in 2023. Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, though, Kopocis and her team deserve a lot of credit for finally breaking through to a tournament appearance.
Metzler engineered plenty of success for the Wakefield attack this fall. This multi-sport star is a deceptive setter on the volleyball court, and she piled up nearly nine assists per set for the Trojans in her junior campaign. It feels like a postseason bid is on the horizon for Metzler and Wakefield.
Randolph High School got plenty of production from its junior defensive specialist. Scott chipped in with almost four-and-a-half digs per set and even showed off her skills in the Cardinal frontcourt.
