These players each finished with at least 3,400 votes each. Each was either the top vote getter or runner up in their respective position polls. All three are top notch players in the state. Lets take a look at the questions and answers for each player.
Landry Braziel Landry Braziel 6'0" | OH Community Christian | 2024 State OK from Community Christian finished 2nd overall and Carley Butler Carley Butler 6'1" | MB Owasso | 2024 State OK from Owasso finished 3rd.
Landry Braziel Landry Braziel 6'0" | OH Community Christian | 2024 State OK is a six rotation outside hitter for Community Christian.
Question 1: How and when did you start playing volleyball? “I started playing volleyball when I was 12 for OK Charge on the UA team.”
Question 2: What’s it ben like being part of such an amazing run at CCS in your career? “Playing with so many great players and great friends making it to the state finals 3 years in a row, has been more fun that I could ever have imagined. My sister won 2 state championships when she was at CCS. So I always wanted to follow in her footsteps!”
Question 3: What are a couple things your teammates bring to the table that compliment your game? “I have been blessed to have played all 3 years with the same 2 setters, so it has made my job so much easier having played so ling with them both. Also, without our great passers I would never get so many opportunities without them.”
Question 4: Have you had any offers yet? If so, does any of them stick out to you so far? Yes, I have gotten multiple scholarship offers, having visited UTEP most recently. I hope to take official visits to Wichita State and North Texas soon! Thank for bringing attention to so many players in Oklahoma!”
Carley Butler Carley Butler 6'1" | MB Owasso | 2024 State OK is a high flying middle blocker from Owasso.
Question 1: How and when did you start playing volleyball? “I started with a small league in 3rd grade through my elementary school in Missouri. After that, I had a friend whose mom was a coach and she started a competitive team and that is when I realized my love for the game. We moved to Oklahoma my 4th grade year and unfortunately I didn’t start again until 7th grade.”
Question 2: what has it been like being a part of such a tough high school conference? ” I really enjoy playing in the toughest conference in Oklahoma. Because there are so many great players and a lot of competition; It has helped me grow as an athlete and a person. I am very competitive and playing in the Frontier Valley Conference has pushed me and is preparing me to play the next level.”
Question 3: What are some things your coaches have taught you that have really helped you grow as a player? “One thing I have struggled with, especially early on, is remembering volleyball is a team sport. I have a habit of putting a lot of pressure on myself and when I mess up I have a tendency of thinking it is my fault if we lose. My coaches have helped me realize we work as a team and I have to focus on the game and my team instead of myself.”
Question 4: What was it about Oklahoma University that excites you and makes you want to play there? “One of the main things that stood out to me every time I stepped on campus was the energy and culture. All the way down from the coaches to the players. When I made my decision, those factors played a huge part in me choosing OU. The coaches are fantastic, the players are great and I get to stay close to home. I feel extremely blessed because not a lot of players get this opportunity. #BoomerSooner”
Both players are top tier talent here in Oklahoma and will go on to the next level and do big things. We wish them the best for their futures.
