Continue ReadingYes, I have a schedule. I have a general idea of all the events I will be covering for the club season. This January will give me a chance with all ages in the 15-18s division ranging from top open teams in the country to regional Wisconsin clubs. Let’s take a look at what January will bring.
Windy City 18s Qualifier – Schaumburg, IL
January 14-16
This is one of the top 18s qualifiers in the country bringing clubs who will feature teams that have national title aspirations. California squads will be coming to the Windy City (or at least the West Suburb of Schaumburg) who will be looking to grab that early bid.
In the 18 Open Division, Absolute, Club V, Coast, NPJ, Sunshine, and Wave are coming from the West. Club V out or Salt Lake City and Coast out of Southern California were in the final four of 17 Open in Indy last July. Wave and Sunshine were also 17 Open squads who will be ones to watch over the weekend.
The Midwest will be strong with some of the top programs in the country competing. 1st Alliance 18 Gold, the defending 17 Open champions will be in contention. FC Elite 18 Elite out of Appleton, Wisconsin will have some pieces back from their final four finish in 18 Open that includes top outside hitter Ella Demetrician, a Michigan commit. Legacy and Michigan Elite will have strong teams in 2023. Top outside hitter, Harper Murray will no longer be suited up for Legacy as she will be enrolling to Nebraska for spring semester. Michigan Elite 18 Mizuno was a 17 Open qualifier in 2022 and will still have one of the top setters in the country in Ava Sarafa who will head to Kentucky.
*Will have more previews out leading to events when rosters are finalized.
Prep Dig Resolution – 15-18s – Appleton, WI
January 21-22
Division 1 coaches are still in their quiet period, but this will be an event where other college coaches could benefit from from an early time to see top talent. The 17/18s field will have some of the top available 2023s and 2024s in Wisconsin. FC Elite and Milwaukee Sting will have their top teams in attendance as well as Impact, Wisconsin Premier, Wisconsin Ice, Midwest Penguins, I AM VBC, and other Badger Region teams where they will get an early look at each other before the Badger Region Qualifier at the end of February. Some of these matchups could be key for seeding in future events.
Central Zone – Indianapolis, IN
January 28-29
This is one of my favorite events to cover where it’s one of the top events in the country for all age divisions in January. Teams who fair well at this event put themselves in a favorable seed for Presidents Day events and Qualifier season. This features teams from Wisconsin down to Atlanta.
17 Open will feature a lot of local talent where Indiana has a big time Class of 2024. Academy, Boiler Juniors, Circle City, Rev, and Team Indiana will all have powerhouse teams that include big recruits such as Ava Utterback (Circle City – Louisville), Lauren Harden (Rev – Florida), and Allie Shondell (Boiler Juniors – Purdue).
For 15 and 16 Open, this is the first chance to see what teams are bringing for the 2023 season. There are so many changes between the 15s and 16s year. Some athletes have switched clubs, positions, or have started to really find their groove as an athlete. I don’t cover 14s, so this is the first chance to see the 15s make a statement.
