In our final rankings update, there’s a lot of talented middles that should see success at the college level.
Here’s a look at the top 10 middles from our final update.
1. Abigail Reck Abigail Reck 6'2" | MB Northville | 2023 State #74 Nation MI , Northville/Legacy
Reck has established herself as the top middle in the state while also showing the athleticism and court IQ to be a successful outside during the prep season. The Northeastern commit put up 581 kills for Northville this fall, while also tallying 348 digs, 63 aces and 51 blocks. Reck led Northville to finishing runner-up in Division 1. She’s also helped Legacy to multiple national titles as a dominant blocking force in the middle.
2. Kennedy Arp Kennedy Arp 6'0" | MB South Christian | 2023 State MI , South Christian/FaR Out
A Valparaiso commit, Arp had a big fall season by leading South Christian to the Division 2 semifinals. She recorded 328 kills while hitting close to .400. Arp also put up 86 blocks. The 6-footer has a lot of reach and great instincts at the net. She’s been a big building block for the FaR Out club program and shown tremendous growth year over year.
3. Laurece Abraham Laurece Abraham 6'1" | MB Country Day | 2023 State #111 Nation MI , Country Day/Legacy
Another standout piece of Legacy’s multi-time national championship squad, Abraham brings as much power at the net as anyone. Injuries slowed down her prep season, but the Yale commit still helped DCD be a top-ranked team in D2 throughout most of the fall. Abraham had 270 kills over 79 sets of play, hitting close to .340. She also showcased some improved passing and defense skills when an injury forced her into the back row.
4. Olivia Gardner Olivia Gardner 6'2" | MB Dakota | 2023 State MI , Dakota/Legacy
A Loyola-Chicago commit, Gardner has the footwork and athleticism to impact the game in a lot of areas. As a 6’2” middle, she put down over 230 kills this fall for Dakota and also added over 50 blocks. She also hit over .315 on the season, proving to be a consistent finisher at the net. She’s been able to be a commanding presence for her Legacy squad and really shines in pressure situations.
5. Neele’ge’ Sims Neele’ge’ Sims 6'1" | MB Corunna | 2023 State MI , Corunna/Michigan Elite
Sims has been the workhorse for Corunna this past fall and continues to display a lot of talent. She had 378 kills during the prep season and put up close to 1,100 for her career. That also included over 200 blocks. A Missouri State commit that has been a cornerstone for the Michigan Elite program, Sims is a driven middle that still seems to be getting better.
6. Aubreigh Oswald Aubreigh Oswald 6'2" | MB Lowell | 2023 State MI , Lowell/FaR Out
Oswald bounced back really well from a knee injury that forced her to miss her junior season at Lowell. A multi-sport talent, Oswald put down 411 kills this fall to go along with 54 blocks. She also took on a big defensive role with 272 digs. She’s got a lot of natural athleticism and has proven to be a player that can overcome a lot of adversity.
7. Reilly Zegunis Reilly Zegunis 6'0" | MB Zeeland East | 2023 State MI , Zeeland East/FaR Out
Zegunis is another strong product out of the Grand Rapids-area. She’s got big power with a big wingspan that allows her to cover a lot of space at the net. Her vision is also a strength, as she’s able to place the ball in a lot of tight spots and utilize her offspeed game very well. A Wright State commit, Zegunis looks to have a high ceiling for the next level.
8. Kayla Ozanich Kayla Ozanich 6'1" | MB Okemos | 2023 State MI , Okemos/FaR Out
Ozanich really had a breakout season for Okemos while helping guide to Wolves on an impressive postseason run. She recorded 429 kills while hitting .350 on the year. She was also a real force from the service like with 83 aces. Ozanich also was an underrated defender, recording 245 digs.
9. Makenzie Ritsema Makenzie Ritsema 6'0" | MB Grand Rapids Christian | 2023 State MI , Grand Rapids Christian/FaR Out
Ritsema got a chance to step up for Grand Rapids Christian this year and the 6’2” middle held down the middle for the Eagles. She finished at a high rate and was a constant force defensively at the net. She got her hands on a lot of attacks to give her passers a chance to succeed.
10. Kam Burbridge Kam Burbridge 6'1" | MB Grand Haven | 2023 State MI , Grand Haven/MVA
Burbridge is a very explosive player. The 6’1” middle was easy to spot on the floor, as she could deliver a powerful swing that you didn’t see very often. She’s lightning quick and has great reach on her swing. She’s got the build and style that should be successful at the next level.
