The collection of outside hitters in this class is something else, with many on their way to doing being things at the college level.
1. Harper Murray Harper Murray 6'2" | OH Skyline | 2023 State #2 Nation MI , Skyline/Legacy
Murray was the Miss Volleyball winner and has been one of the top prospects nationally in the Class of 2023. The Nebraska-bound hitter tallied 2,425 kills in her prep career at Skyline with over 1,400 digs, 360 aces and 130 blocks. A multiple-time national club champion as part of Legacy, Murray could go down as one of Michigan’s all-time greatest volleyball players.
2. Nina Horning Nina Horning 6'5" | OH Lake Orion | 2023 State #50 Nation MI , Lake Orion/Legacy
The Cincinnati-bound Horning has been a leading hitter at Lake Orion for all four years of her high school play and also a club national champion at Legacy. Over her time with the Dragons, Horning approached 2,000 kills and nearly 300 aces. She also was an improved defender each year and had over 800 digs in high school. At 6’5” Horning has a balance of size and athleticism you don’t see very often.
3. Kennedy Louisell Kennedy Louisell 6'0" | OH Forest Hills Northern | 2023 State #140 Nation MI , Forest Hills Northern/Legacy
Louisell is a UNC-Greensboro commit that has really raised her stock in the last few years. She’s been a dominant player on the court for Forest Hills Northern, leading the Huskies to a Division 1 semifinal appearance this fall. In club season, she’s making the jump to Legacy this year and will get to test herself against the best in the country.
4. Sarah Vellucci Sarah Vellucci 6'0" | OH Novi | 2023 State #97 Nation MI , Novi/Legacy
Vellucci is a standout hitter for Novi, but also one of the best defenders you can find during club season. She’s been the defensive rock for Legacy in their national championship squads while being the go-to arm for Novi’s offense in the high school season. The Long Beach State commit had over 1,200 kills and 1,250 digs during her prep career.
5. Raegan Lantz Raegan Lantz 6'1" | OH West Ottawa | 2023 State MI , West Ottawa/MVA
A Miami (Ohio) commit, Lantz has been one of the top arms in the state and holding down the Grand Rapids area in recent years. This past high school season, Lantz put down 673 kills while hitting .303. She was also a power defensively with 268 digs. She also brought the heat from the service line with 73 aces.
6. Ella Schomer Ella Schomer 6'0" | RS Marian | 2023 State #142 Nation MI , Marian/Legacy
Primarily a right side, Schomer has been a key piece to Marian’s last three state championship runs. The Wofford commit had 324 kills in 2022 while hitting .303 for the Mustangs. Her Marian career saw her produce over 750 kills, 160 blocks, 750 digs and 100 aces.
7. Remi Madison Remi Madison 5'9" | OH Grand Blanc | 2023 State MI , Grand Blanc/Michigan Elite
Madison has been an offensive and defensive workhorse for Grand Blanc and Michigan Elite for years. This past season she helped Grand Blanc secure a district title while putting down over 400 kills and racking up over 340 digs. An athletic and driven player, Madison has all the skills to help a college program.
8. Sarah Dunn Sarah Dunn 5'10" | OH Forest Hills Central | 2023 State MI , Forest Hills Central/FaR Out
Dunn had a big breakout year in 2022 with 618 kills for Forest Hills Central. She also added 454 digs to be a complete player for a top-ranked team in the state. Her efforts this fall carried her to over 1,330 kills and 1,200 blocks during her prep career. Her all-around game proved she has what it takes to play at the next level.
9. Paige Giehtbrock Paige Giehtbrock 6'0" | OH Clarkston | 2023 State MI , Clarkston/L2
A Rider commit, Giehtbrock is another player that can impact the game offensively, defensively and from the service line. This past season she guided the Wolves to a D1 quarterfinal spot while taking the champs, Marian, to five sets. Giehtbrock had 390 kills, 262 digs and 82 aces.
10. Emily May Emily May 6'1" | OH Coopersville | 2023 State MI , Coopersville/Inside Out
May has been another in a great line of hitting talents to come out of the Coopersville program. The Ferris State-bound outside plays a very quick and very powerful game at 6’1”. May’s got great hitting and blocking instincts and has developed a variety of shots in the last two seasons to amplify her finishing rate.
