The Class of 2024 can sometimes get overlooked, being sandwiched in between a Class of 2023 and 2025 that have already made national waves.

However, Legacy hopes to change that narrative this season with its 17-1 and 17-2 ADIDAS squads.

Even with some key injuries, both squads have shown they can compete at a high level in the Open Division.

Here's a closer look at what the two teams bring to the table this club season.

Novi coach Kacy Byron leads this group of impressive 2024 talent.

Unfortunately Legacy 17-1 ADIDAS won't know just how good it could be this year as middle [player_tooltip player_id='110282' first='Mallory' last='Bohl'] (Notre Dame) and outside [player_tooltip player_id='110288' first='Cayla' last='Cogan'] (George Washington) will both miss the club season due to ACL injuries. Bohl was a dominant middle last club season, while Cogan really was starting to come into her own at the end of the prep season before suffering her knee injury.

Still, this team has a chance to do some big things, as displayed by their third-place finish in the 17 Open of the JVA Rock ‘N Rumble last week.

What this team has to rely on is 6-foot setter Lucy Mott (Boston College) who comes out of St. Ursula Academy in Ohio. She runs a very fast offense and is able to be commanding at the net.

She's got a lot of size to work with in the middle. [player_tooltip player_id='110315' first='Avry' last='Nelson'] is a 6'3” option that is coming off a breakout fall season with Northville. [player_tooltip player_id='153677' first='Taya' last='Nordmann'] is a 6'3” option from DeWitt, while [player_tooltip player_id='473927' first='Alise' last='Evans'] is newly transferred from Florida. She's a 6'2” athlete that is enrolled at Oak Park and brings plenty of explosiveness to the middle position. Nordmann is recovering from an injury as well, but is expected to be given the green light in February.

Evans can move to the right side, as can [player_tooltip player_id='176600' first='Kate' last='Maley'], who is another middle/OPP option. Maley is 6'1” and had a strong fall season with Skyline, finishing at a high rate.

On the outside, [player_tooltip player_id='153672' first='Audrey' last='Geer'] (Marshall) has been making vast improvements year-over-year. The 5'10” Geer has proven to be a six-rotation outside that can excel anywhere on the floor. [player_tooltip player_id='110293' first='Mia' last='Eickholdt'] can provide a great compliment to Geer on the outside or right as well.

Defensively, this team has standouts [player_tooltip player_id='110299' first='Kiley' last='Gallagher'] and [player_tooltip player_id='110300' first='Ashlee' last='Gnau'] in the back row. Gallagher was a workhorse for Clarkston this past fall, while Gnau was one of the many elite defenders the Northville program was blessed with.

Last week showed that this squad is still going to compete at a high level in the Open Division despite the injuries its dealing with. Their size will be a handful for anyone to deal with, and their ball control should remain a strength throughout the year.

Legacy 17-2 ADIDAS

[player_tooltip player_id='110309' first='Emery' last='Kuebler']

Larry Wyatt heads up this squad of 2024's that will be eager to show that can compete with anyone.

It's a scrappy squad that is going to look to outwork most opponents.

The team should have a lot of composure and control thanks to setter [player_tooltip player_id='110309' first='Emery' last='Kuebler']. Kuebler has shown a lot of growth over the last 18 months. She's got a nice touch on her sets and has command of the floor.

She's got some good size to work with in the middle with a trip of 6-foot+ options in [player_tooltip player_id='222363' first='Kaitlyn' last='Marsh'], [player_tooltip player_id='274527' first='Rachel' last='Youngblood'] and Lillian Frias. Each brings a different dynamic to the position, but Kuebler will be able to get the best out of them.

On the outside, [player_tooltip player_id='110291' first='Alana' last='Deshetsky'] is another on-court leader that brings a lot of grit to the position. [player_tooltip player_id='473948' first='Sarah' last='Curtis'] and Natalie Beubecker are also scrappy players that can bring a lot of pop on their attacks. [player_tooltip player_id='110329' first='Hannah' last='Tymitz'] is a RS option that is 6'1” and comes from the Romeo program. She uses her length well, especially defensively.

Speaking of defense, this squad has well-coached DS options in [player_tooltip player_id='153682' first='Kendall' last='Smith'] and [player_tooltip player_id='274530' first='Riley' last='Lockhart']. Lockhart has shown she can play anywhere on the floor, so her athleticism will bode well as a primary DS. Smith comes from the Notre Dame Prep program, which has produced some of the top liberos in the state year after year.

This team isn't going to back away from competition. At the Rock ‘N Rumble, it held its own in the Open Division and picked up a handful of wins. Even in defeats, it was highly competitive and was within a few points of taking sets. This is a 17-2 ADIDAS squad that wants to compete to be one of the best 17s in the state.
