Player, position spotlight will be a series to highlight prospects and introduce players to fans. Introducing six players below whose contribution to their team will allow for a stellar season.
Isabella Sage
Isabella Sage
Isabella Sage stays focused by having mental toughness under pressure. She is a smart setter who knows how to pick the best attack option by reading the opponents. If a pass is off, she chases the ball and uses what she can to correct the pass and make the best out of it for her pins to deliver. Her hands are smooth with the push of the ball and she finds her target. Sage has good footwork to get to the ball and court awareness that leads to strategic opportunities. She will make great plays happen!
Nicolette Noble
Nicolette Noble
Nicolette Noble is quick, consistent, and easily handles the ball. Her defense on the court kept the ball alive in many of the rallies. She has a solid platform and great ball control which transform into good and consistent passes. She is good at defensive coverage and digging in the back row. Noble has quick reflexes to make the impossible saves or get to the second ball if the setter is unable to. She gets in the right place to defend by reading the opponent’s offense. Noble is a go-getter on the court and plays her position well.
Daniela Rusich
Daniela Rusich
Daniela Rusich has good blocking and attacking techniques at the net. With blocking, her hands are firm creating a wall to defend the kill. Her attacking technique with a quick short set has the power to split the block or go around the block to score. She has the quickness to slide over to each pin and help with being the first line of defense. If the pass is good, Rusich can serve as a decoy to throw off the opponent’s blockers. She can recover quickly in transition and approach to be ready for a quick set and can score with a kill. She’s a player to keep an eye on.
Emory Bernal
Emory Bernal
Emory Bernal takes advantage of being a left-handed right-side player by the way she hits the ball making it harder to predict where it’s going. She reads the court well and reacts to overpasses by replacing the ball in open areas. Her high hands are perfect to get solid blocks at the net. Bernal is quick and has good footwork to make her approach more efficient and following up with a strong arm and power behind the ball leads to a possible point during gameplay. She can dig for quick attacks, pass the ball and block kills from the other team.
Maylynn Mitchell is a six-rotation outside hitter. She is strong, and powerful yet with a delicate passing touch. She is a smart offensive player who can score with various complex swings at the net or from the back row. Mitchell is a leader on the court with great communication skills and supports and encourages her teammates. She is solid in passing, serving, and killing the ball by using a combination of strength and craftiness to score. Her back-row defense helps with digging kills and her quickness helps her get to the tips. Mitchell is a player under the spotlight to be watched this season.
Highlights
Layli Ostovar is an all-around six-rotation player that brings the heat to both outside, right side, and pipe. Her powerful swing and strong arm give off a remarkable amount of speed to a ball. With only being a freshman, three more years of development will only improve the talent and skills she has now. Playing alongside her sisters Ayva (S) and Kayla (L), there’s a special energy on the court that sisters bring out of each other. Ostovar’s ability to place the ball well be it cross-court, down line, or off the block is a huge asset to her scoring. Her passing is consistent and accurate making it easy to start the offense. She is not afraid to get on the floor to dig a ball in defense. Ostovar has a great serve that can get the opponent out of system. She is a fun player to watch under the spotlight.
