It’s a very talented class, loaded with a lot of hitters that can make a splash at the next level.
In the early stages, the setters and liberos are fighting for position, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t some great ones in the class. In fact, the top overall player is a setter.
Here’s a look at the ranked setters and liberos in the Class of 2025.
Setters
1. Campbell Flynn Campbell Flynn 6'2" | S Mercy | 2025 State #4 Nation MI , Mercy/Legacy
Flynn isn’t just the top setter, but the top overall player in our latest 2025 rankings. She’s helped lead Legacy to an Open national championship during the 2022 club season and she followed that up with 666 assists, 344 kills and 105 aces during the prep season. The 6’2” Flynn has all the athleticism and instincts you could want in a setter.
2. Ella Craggs Ella Craggs 5'9" | S Northville | 2025 State #127 Nation MI , Northville/Michigan Elite
Craggs is an elite-level setter that helped pushed Michigan Elite to a great 2022 Open club season and then followed it up with over 1,100 assists for Northville during the prep season. A great all-around talent, Craggs also had 280 digs, 75 kills and 50 aces.
3. Abby Pickard Abby Pickard 5'10" | S Lakewood | 2025 State MI , Lakewood/FaR Out
Pickard has earned a lot of trust and respect of her peers in the Grand Rapids area, as she’s leading FaR Out 18 Black this season, getting a chance to really elevate her game against veteran competition during the club season. At Lakewood, Pickard showed a lot of maturity and command of the Vikings offense when in the setter role, but has the intangibles to be impactful defensively as well.
4. Cali Stevons Cali Stevons 5'6" | S Dewitt | 2025 State MI , DeWitt/MVA
Stevons hasn’t had the chance to showcase her setting on the prep level quite yet, but she has still been a big defensive asset for DeWitt. This fall she tallied 370 digs with 47 aces. As a setter with MVA, she’s got quick feet and eyes. Stevons has a good spring in her ball and is able to place it well across the net.
Liberos
1. McKenna Payne McKenna Payne 5'7" | DS/L SMCC | 2025 State #105 Nation MI , SMCC/Michigan Elite
Payne has pushed herself to be in the conversation as one of the best defenders in the state regardless of class. She’s a natural athlete that has stepped up and played hitting roles in the past when needed and been able to excel there as well. Her quickness and instincts in the back row are what allow her to elevate her game over her peers.
2. Madison Peal Madison Peal 5'8" | DS/L Grand Rapids Christian | 2025 State MI , Grand Rapids Christian/MVA
Following in the footsteps of her sister, Madison Peal Madison Peal 5'8" | DS/L Grand Rapids Christian | 2025 State MI has the ability to be a college level defender just like Lauren Peal (University of Indianapolis). Peal stays with the play and is able to cover a lot of ground quickly in order to keep a point alive. She’s gritty and willing to get beat up a little bit to earn her spot on the court.
3. Taygan Corstange Taygan Corstange 5'4" | DS/L Gull Lake | 2025 State MI , Gull Lake/Dead Frog
Corstange had a big prep season for Gull Lake, recording 585 digs as a sophomore to establish herself as one of the best in the class. Corstange is able to make the tough digs looks relatively easy by staying calm on the floor and keeping her teammates relaxed. She’s patient in her actions and let’s the play come to her as opposed to rushing to the ball.
