They can go from receiving to hitting, blocking, and digging in a rally. It takes a lot of athleticism to go from one responsibility on the court to the next. A highlight of watching outside hitters is when they acknowledge their setter or libero after their kill. I have witnessed high fives, fist bumps, spirit fingers, point shooters and so many other ways that hitters are acknowledging their teammates. Without that pass or set, that great kill would not have happened. Introducing five outside hitters who bring the heat at the net and fire on the court.
Sydney Hanson
Sydney Hanson
Sydney Hanson brings her agility, explosiveness, and talent every time she is on the court. She moves side to side for balls, jumps high, dives low, and is back on her feet with quickness. She has hitting power that makes her attacks successful. She knows how to hit through a block or tool it to score. Hanson is quick to react to overpasses by banging the ball back over the net. In the back row, she passes, digs, and, dives. She knows how to hit cross-court, downline, or any other area that she sees open. Hanson brings that fire of good energy to the game.
Elizabeth Heath
Elizabeth Heath
Elizabeth Heath can hit over the block to score. She is ready at all times playing front and back row. She is ready to set the block or score in the front row. She is ready to serve receive or dig the ball in the back row. Although opponents are prepared for the strong side hitter, Heath can overpower the ball and make a successful attack. She has the versatility to accomplish any task needed at the given moment on the court be it passing, hitting, or blocking.
Memphis Burnett
Memphis Burnett
Memphis Burnett is coming in hot as a freshman outside hitter who also knows how to play the middle blocker position. No matter the location of a set ball, she can adjust and provides a very good swing to score. She is constantly aware of what’s happening on the court with offense and defense. Burnett holds her own by penetrating the net and completing the blocks. Her good passes from the back row create an effective offense. She plays with confidence in her ability on the court by being able to place the ball anywhere rather than hitting the same shot over and over. Burnett brings fire to the game of volleyball.
Kaci Demaria is an all-around player who makes each task on the court look effortless. She can pass the ball from the back row on target. At the net, she gets right on top of the ball. I associate the saying, “Here Comes the Boom” because her power makes it go straight down with so much force and speed it’s hard to defend. The advantage of being 6’4 and having high hands is monster blocks at the net. She’s not afraid to get low and dig balls. Demaria has a few different serves that get her opponents out of system or create aces. She is an all-around great player who brings the heat every time she is on the court.
Highlights
Ashley Schrier
Ashley Schrier
Ashley Schrier is a smart player who understands that you don’t always have to swing away to score. She knows how to read the court and can determine if a tip or roll shot would be beneficial in scoring and she’ll do it. Schrier uses different approaches which allows her to still create power if the set is off. She drops into defensive coverage and is prepared to effectively dig balls coming her way. She brings heat when she kills and fire when she defends.
