Some of the athletes listed may have played multiple positions on the court, but we have chosen them for the positions that we think they excelled at the most. We watched tons of matches this year and covered a lot of athletes in order to determine who was the best of the best. All of the wonderful players made it very difficult to decide both nominees and who eventually won due to their performances. Please help us congratulate these winners of our prestigious All-State Awards.
1st Team All State Selection: Outside
Torrey Stafford Torrey Stafford 6'0" | OH Marymount | 2023 State #20 Nation CA [2023] 6-0 Outside (HS: Marymount/Club: Sunshine/Verbal: University of Pittsburgh)
Torrey is currently ranked as the 14th best overall prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings. She plays at Marymount High School and also club for the nationally recognized Sunshine volleyball program. We have profiled her a few times and here is a little from the latest article, “Miss Stafford is a super dynamic pin attacker that can score from any location on the volleyball court. She proved to me that she is one of the best players in the state and nation. I also loved how great of a defender she is out of the middle back position. She has a natural touch on hard driven balls. She has committed to play volleyball at the University of Pittsburgh. She is currently one of the top attackers amongst seniors in kills as she has tallied 490 this season on a very impressive .340 hitting percentage. She is one major reason why her squad had an overall record of 30-10 and a conference record of 9-1.” I’m not sure that there is a player who was so impressive in their overall level of play this year in Cali. She is just a scoring juggernaut who can only be slowed down, not stopped. She plays all the way around and was equally as effective as a digger in the back row. We are proud to announce that Miss Stafford has earned the 1st Team All-State award from our publication. Please help us congratulate her on the achievement.
1st Team All State Selection: Outside
Kaitlyn Cabral Kaitlyn Cabral 5'11" | OH University Prep | 2023 CA [2023] 5-9 Outside (HS: University Prep/Club: Synergy Force/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Kaitlyn is currently an unranked prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings, but is on our watch list. She stars on the outside for University Prep high school this year and plays club for Synergy Force. We profiled her when we nominated her and here is a refresher of what we stated about her. “Currently she has the fifth most kills amongst all seniors in the entire state. Her tally sits at 519 kills on a jaw-dropping .418 hitting percentage. Her production has her varsity squad sitting at 39-3 overall on the season and also undefeated in conference play. She is no stranger to success as she led University Prep to their first ever state championship ship last season with her golden arm. When you watch her play the game, you see a true six-rotation player who excels in the back row. She has impeccable footwork while shuffling to the ball and always stays so balanced prior to contact.” This young lady was stellar this season. She had an amazing send off during her senior year. We will be adding her to our rankings for sure when we update them in a few weeks. We are very pleased to announce that due to her offensive production on the court for the entire year, she has earned the honor of being named to our 1st Team All-State. Please help us congratulate her on the achievement.
