#21, Maggie Ginn (Trimble County)– With a winning season and a district runner-up title, Trimble County had a record year with Maggie Ginn in the back row. Carrying the team in digs, Ginn posted a hot 434 digs with an average of 6.11 per set. Ginn’s defensive pursuit is so effortless, and she pushes for every ball even out of her area. I watched her dig a ball from the outside and then cover her opposite and lastly finish it up with a one hand stab off the block. She gives it her all and never fails to leave anything out there. Ginn’s senior year was one to remember!
#22, Cayden Vandiver Cayden Vandiver DS/L Warren East | 2023 State KY (Warren East)– Helping Warren East to their best season in program history, Cayden Vandiver Cayden Vandiver DS/L Warren East | 2023 State KY , senior libero, tallied 617 digs in 102 sets. Vandiver is a pure competitor, and that’s what made her so special. Fearless is hard to find on the court, but Vandiver perfectly embodied being unafraid and running through a wall to get the dig. She made her presence known defensively with her quick moves and great reading skills. Plus, her serve receive was very consistent which allowed East to run their offense. Vandiver made a mark on Warren East.
#23, Emily Christian Emily Christian DS/L Owensboro Catholic | 2023 State KY (Owensboro Catholic)– Another senior libero to the list, Emily Christian Emily Christian DS/L Owensboro Catholic | 2023 State KY put up big numbers with 568 digs in 94 sets. Christian has been a starter for Owensboro Catholic and really came alive this year as their star senior libero because of her quick-witted mind and love of the game! Being as error free as possible is important in the game of volleyball, and Christian knew exactly how to live up to this challenge. I loved that she kept her head down and made the smart plays to help her team. With a district and region championship, Christian is leaving the program as a successful senior.
#24, Maggie Downey (Livingston Central)– Adding a sophomore to the rankings, Maggie Downey counted 325 digs in 54 sets which was incredible for her last year as an underclassmen. With a district championship, Downey had a great year and really helped the team defensively and in serve receive. Downey is a player that gives 110% effort, carries a great attitude, and constantly communicates with her teammates. It doesn’t take talent to have the intangibles, but Downey has both which is why she’s on this top 25 list!
#25, Autumn Wampler Autumn Wampler OH Letcher County Central | 2023 State KY (Letcher County Central)– Averaging 5.85 digs per set, Autumn Wampler Autumn Wampler OH Letcher County Central | 2023 State KY was a defensive machine this year for Letcher County Central in her senior year. The best part about Wampler is her athleticism and go-getter attitude. She’s not even a libero but managed to make the top 25 list in digs and add 159 kills on the year. It’s because of her strength, heart, and determination in every game. With a district runner-up title and a battle of a loss in the first round of region, Wampler leaves as one of the most talented all-around player Letcher County has seen in awhile.
