This is awesome for college coaches coming to scout, as well as for us here at Prep Dig. Much of the state was in action this weekend. Two huge tournaments were hosting over 630 teams signed up. We were in attendance for the Tulsa Attack. Lets take a look at a handful of 16s age players who stood out and played well!
The top finishers for the 16s division were:
1st- Tulsa Power 15-1
2nd- Peak 16-2
3rd- Tulsa Power 16-2 and Peak 16-3
Player Analysis:
Alyssa Carnine Alyssa Carnine 5'5" | S Bishop McGuinness | 2025 State OK #19- Setter for Peak 16-2. She attends Bishop McGuinness High School. With one of the starting setters graduating, Carnine will likely be a 6-2 setter for her powerhouse high school this next season. I got to see the 16-2 team play multiple matches and she really did a great job every time. She has quick feet that allow her to track down passes but more importantly, allow her to get her body in a position to still make a tough set look easy. She set some against the flow balls that were a thing of beauty. The opposing middles were having a tough time setting their blocks.
Kennedy Johnson #12- Middle Blocker for Crush 16-1. She attends Stillwater High school. She is a middle that doesn’t get subbed out in the back row, not something you see every day but she deserves it. She is a solid player all the way around the court. Her drive will get her a long ways in her volleyball career. Great frame with a lot of athleticism. Her ability to see the floor allows her to off speed to open spots and not have a necessity to swing hard. Tack on a good powerful serve and she affects the game plenty for her team.
Raegan Essex #12- Outside Hitter for TPV 16-2. She attends Muskogee High School. She made a big splash this past school season as she was the undoubtable leader for the Roughers. If you haven’t seen the power in her swing, you need to stop by a court and see for yourself. No shocker, she has plenty of big time plays when she swings as hard as she does. A lot of her power is derived from her approach towards the net. She does a really good job of transitioning and taking a big approach into her attacks.
Keely Lake #11- Outside Hitter for Peak 16-2. She attends Edmond North High School. She is a 6 rotation player that would help any team take the next step forward. She can serve, dig and hit with great efficiency. I watched her nearly dent the floor a few times when she got a hold of a set. She will be a big reason this team is tough in the state of Oklahoma.
We will be putting out multiple articles over the next week covering these top players and some emerging stars. 2023 has already begun to prove what we have been saying for a couple years now, Oklahoma is on the rise and will be a force in volleyball sooner rather than later.
