St. Louis will be one of the big destinations where plenty of top athletes and college coaches in the house. 2024s will be on the radar for all levels where there are plenty available. I have been fortunate to see these athletes live with trips to Iowa, events hosted in Wisconsin, and a stop at Central Zone in Indianapolis. Here are a few of plenty in recruiting 2024s in St. Louis.
Lucy Kay Lucy Kay 6'1" | MB Fishers | 2024 State IN – REV 17-1 Raptors
Middle Blocker
I was able to see Kay play at Central Zone and was extremely impressed with what she had to offer for her REV squad. She’s 6’1, long, and moves really well. She was extremely active along the net offensively and defensively. What is tough to stop is when she attacks off one foot. She can go in front or behind the setter on the slide where she is extremely terminal. Her teammates seem to go another level in their energy when she has a big play. She just gets the job done and is a really tough matchup.
Maggie Uhwat Maggie Uhwat 6'0" | OH Richard Burton | 2024 State IL – Mission 17 Elite
Outside Hitter
Uhwat checks all the boxes when it comes to a six rotation outside who can get the job done. She can hold her own when it comes to serve receive and will transition smoothly from pass to attack. When she is on the pin she hits with a high IQ where she can always blast away to score points, but is really strong out of system while also knowing when to use her offspeed shots.
Alexis Maesch Alexis Maesch 5'10" | RS Avon | 2024 State IN – Circle City 17 Purple
Right Side
I was able to see Maesch and her Circle City 17 Purple squad at Central Zone a couple weeks ago. I had notes on Maesch that she had a really nice, lefty swing from the right side where she could provide plenty of pop. She has a high contact point and brings a different element to the game where they other side will have to make adjustments to her ability to score points. She can also establish a strong right side block.
Dakota Elliott – Circle City 17 Purple
Middle Blocker
“Guard Your Grill”. That’s what defenders need to do when Elliott goes up to swing out of the middle for Circle City. She is a fast twitch middle who can get up fast and hammer it inside the ten footline. Her skill set is really unique with how she can move so quickly along the middle and can be a mismatch nightmare with how she can score in multiple ways and is always sure to close the block.
Alivia Keegan Alivia Keegan S Genoa Kingston | 2024 State IL – Mission 17 Elite
Setter
So smooth. Keegan knows how to win at all levels. She was the MVP of the state championship enroute to winning the title for her high school team in Illinois. She brings an X-Factor to the court where its a blend of athleticism, physicality, and a high IQ. She is one of the top uncommitted setters from Illinois in the Class of 2024. This Mission 17 Elite team is a must watch for college coaches who are looking for high level 2024s who can make an impact in their gym.
Summer Grigg- Madtown 171 National
Outside Hitter
I was able to watch Madtown 171 National at the JVA Jamboree in Milwaukee where they made a run in the 17s Division. This is a really well balanced, athletic squad of athletes who can play multiple positions. Grigg is someone who can pass an attack from the pin and has a fast arm. She was a standout for her Waunakee High School team this past fall where she had 250 kills and over 300 digs. She can be utilized on the pin or as a DS who can swing.
Raegan Stader Raegan Stader 5'9" | RS Monrovia | 2024 State IN – Circle City 17 Black
Pin Attacker
Stader is quite the swiss army knife type of attacker where she can do a little bit of everything. On the outside she has the blend of skills that all attackers need where she can swing away out of system – always posing a threat and will take what the defense gives her whether that be line, cross, or a roll shot to the middle of the court. This 17 Black squad for Circle will be another to keep tabs on where there is a lot of available college level talent who would be a great pick up this spring.
Ellie Schumacher Ellie Schumacher 5'9" | OH Lake Country Lutheran | 2024 State WI – MKE Sting 17 Black
Outside Hitter
MKE Sting 17 Black will be a must watch for college coaches looking at 2024s where they are well trained and have a lot of size along the front line. Schumacher will be a key piece to the success of Sting as a big time point scorer from the outside. She knows what it takes to score points at a high level where she can use the block to her advantage, find the open spot, and brings a no fear approach to the pin.
Maggie Johnson Maggie Johnson 5'11" | MB Assumption | 2024 State IA – Iowa Select 17 Mizuno
Outside Hitter
Absolutely electric. Johnson is a big time point scorer for Iowa Select 17 Mizuno out of the Quad Cities. She was part of a state title team at Davenport Assumption this past fall and teams up with some of the top athletes in the area for this club who has been on the up and up the past five years. Johnson can really get up and drop the hammer, she has an aggressive swing and knows how to let it rip. This is a team that could make some noise in St. Louis.
Kaci Johnson Kaci Johnson 5'8" | S North Scott | 2024 State IA – Iowa Select 17 Mizuno
Setter
I’ve seen Johnson play live, but she has really made improvements in her game so far this club season. Iowa Select has one of the best websites when it comes to player information and finding updated video and in watching video of their attackers, I was consistently drawn to the performance of setter, Kaci Johnson Kaci Johnson 5'8" | S North Scott | 2024 State IA . She receives the ball high and is consistently jump setting with great tempo. She remains neutral and is finding the best opportunity for her attackers to score.
Abby Bauer Abby Bauer 5'8" | OH Kettle Moraine | 2024 State WI – MVP 17 Blue
Outside Hitter
Bauer is a really fun athlete. I was able to see her live a few times this past high school season, most recently at the state tournament for Kettle Moraine High School in suburban Milwaukee. Her game is fun where she just flies on the court – she uses all of her tools when it comes to scoring on the pin. This is an MVP 17 Blue team with a lot of 2024 talent, they are going to be a threat who could be dangerous come day two and three. Knowing a core of this group, they really have athletes who love to thrive in the underdog role and turn some heads.
Kaitlyn Dohs Kaitlyn Dohs 5'8" | OH Oak Creek | 2024 State WI – WI Juniors 17-1
OH/DS
I think Dohs is big time. She’s been a big time high school player at Oak Creek in the South Milwaukee area and was one of the top players at our Wisconsin Top 250 Event. She plays with a smile and a fire that lights up the court. Dohs could be used at the next level as a six rotation outside or a high level libero. She has a diverse skill set. Juniors has a really solid 17s group that will be one to keep tabs on throughout the spring.
Meg Berkland Meg Berkland 5'6" | DS/L Clear Creek Amana | 2024 State IA – Iowa Rockets 18R
Libero
There will be some 2024s playing up in the 18 Open Division. Meg Berkland Meg Berkland 5'6" | DS/L Clear Creek Amana | 2024 State IA will be one of those athletes for Iowa Rockets 18R who have been having a hot start to the season. They won the 18 Liberty Division at Windy City and were in the day three gold pools at the Northern Lights Qualifier. Berkland has been having a big time junior year where her high school team were the Class 4A runner up finishers. She is one of the top available prospects in Iowa’s Class of 2024 and one of the top liberos in the state.
