The Miss Volleyball Award is the highest honor a Michigan prep volleyball player can receive.

The annual award is handed out to the second that has best exemplified standout skills on the court, in the classroom and the community throughout their four years in high school.

Not surprisingly, the competition for the honor is always pretty competitive.

As we look into 2023, the race for Miss Volleyball feels as up in the air as it's ever been.

There's a lot of potential candidates that will step into the fall season with a shot.

Here's a look at some names that could be in the mix to be a finalist.

The entire North Branch roster

While this is a bit sarcastic, it's also quite realistic. North Branch had a tremendous Class of 2024 come into the program and it's going to be hard to pick amongst them. We've seen two finalists from one program before, but North Branch has five that have a legitimate argument to be in the mix. [player_tooltip player_id='110301' first='Hailey' last='Green'] (L/DS) has been First Team All-State in 2021 and 2022, while being honorable mention in 2020. [player_tooltip player_id='110291' first='Alana' last='Deshetsky'] (OH) was an All-State honoree all three years as well. [player_tooltip player_id='110302' first='Adrienne' last='Greschaw'] (S), [player_tooltip player_id='222361' first='Clara' last='Gyomory'] (RS) were First Team All-State for the 2022 prep season, while [player_tooltip player_id='110287' first='Kaela' last='Chingwa'] (MH) was Third Team. The defending D2 champions truly have a rare collection of talent from one class. The Broncos are sure to be represented in the Miss Volleyball race, it's just a matter of who.

[player_tooltip player_id='110318' first='Carley' last='Piercefield'], L/DS Lakewood

[player_tooltip player_id='110318' first='Carley' last='Piercefield']

Piercefield has a credentials list that nobody else in the Class of 2024 can match right now. She is the lone member of the class to be put on an All-State team every year of her prep career. She was Second Team in 2020 and First Team in both 2021 and 2022. The D2 libero for the Vikings has played a lot of high-pressure matches and always raises her game in those contests.

[player_tooltip player_id='110292' first='Zoey' last='Dood'], S Grandville

Dood has been our top-ranked 2024 prospect at Prep Dig Michigan. She's been a standout club player, but during the prep seasons she's earned Second Team All-State honors in Division 1 each of the last two years. A Virginia commit, the 6'2” Dood has a tremendous skillset for the setter position.

[player_tooltip player_id='110282' first='Mallory' last='Bohl'], MH Saline

Bohl had and unfortunate knee injury keep her from making much impact during the 2022 prep season. Had she played for Saline, she surely would have competed to be one of the best middles in the state. The Notre Dame commit is a dominant force on offense and defense. Her challenge will be overcoming a missed year of action.

[player_tooltip player_id='172198' first='Isabelle' last='Swiercz'], OH Hudsonville

Hudsonville needed someone to step up in 2022 after graduating a big class and Swiercz was up for the challenge. She put down 570 kills for a team that was consistently ranked near the top of Division 1. That earned her First Team All-State honors and put her in the mix for Miss Volleyball heading into the 2023 season.

[player_tooltip player_id='110295' first='Elana' last='Erickson'], OH Forest Hills Northern

Erickson has been part of a stacked Forest Hills Northern offense, but will likely be taking on a lead role in 2023. She's was Honorable Mention All-State in 2021 and Second Team in 2022. This past fall she hit over. 310 while pounding over 400 kills.

[player_tooltip player_id='110314' first='Carissa' last='Musta'], MH Cadillac

[player_tooltip player_id='110314' first='Carissa' last='Musta']

Musta is coming off a big breakout fall season for Cadillac, helping the Vikings get to the D2 title match. She was Honorable Mention All-State in 2021 and Second Team in 2022. This last fall she hit .341 with 505 kills, but it's her dominant blocking that truly raises her to an elite level. Musta had 189 blocks last fall, and sits at 432 over her prep career. She's likely to finish as a top-10 blocker in MHSAA history when all is said and done.

[player_tooltip player_id='172203' first='Taylor' last='Smith'], S Pewamo-Westphalia

The rise of the P-W program led to a D3 state title in 2022 and its likely to lead to some big recognition for Smith heading into 2023. A Second Team All-State honoree in 2021, she was named First Team last fall as she ran the Pirate offense with precision. Smith is an aggressive and long setter that definitely has helped put P-W back on the map for volleyball.

Others to watch (In Alphabetical Order): [player_tooltip player_id='473915' first='Hannah' last='Baker'], MH Lenawee Christian; [player_tooltip player_id='110279' first='Gianna' last='Bender'], L/DS Hudsonville; Grace Chisek, S Watervliet; [player_tooltip player_id='110288' first='Cayla' last='Cogan'], OH Clarkston; [player_tooltip player_id='172199' first='Sophie' last='Crawford'], S Gull Lake; [player_tooltip player_id='176604' first='Holland' last='DeVries'], OH Kalamazoo Christian; [player_tooltip player_id='153662' first='Catherine' last='Flaharty'], OH Saline; [player_tooltip player_id='110296' first='Ellie' last='Fles'], MB South Christian; [player_tooltip player_id='110299' first='Kiley' last='Gallagher'], L/DS Clarkston; [player_tooltip player_id='153672' first='Audrey' last='Geer'], OH, Frankenmuth; [player_tooltip player_id='110309' first='Emery' last='Kuebler'], S Clarkston; [player_tooltip player_id='274529' first='Brealyn' last='Lasky'], S Bronson; [player_tooltip player_id='254395' first='Fiona' last='Moord'], MH Leland; [player_tooltip player_id='110315' first='Avry' last='Nelson'], MB Northville; [player_tooltip player_id='297971' first='Kamryn' last='Parlin'], MB Athens; [player_tooltip player_id='153663' first='Allison' last='Pilat'], MB Plymouth Christian; [player_tooltip player_id='110322' first='Taylor' last='Smaka'], L/DS Grand Haven; [player_tooltip player_id='110328' first='Johanna' last='Tillman'], MB Dakota; [player_tooltip player_id='110332' first='Avery' last='Weslow'], OH Forest Hills Central; [player_tooltip player_id='110333' first='Izzy' last='Whittaker'], OH Grand Haven.
