The massive event will feature 17 divisions and as many as 414 teams, which will compete in six different venues around the city. There will be some real talent in action in those teams and we’ll take the week to present some of the names that have what it takes to stand out during the ATX Showcase.
Let’s now look into some liberos who will be hard to score at this weekend:
Karis Carpenter
Karis Carpenter
Carpenter is the starting libero of the STVA 15 Mizuno team that will compete in the 15 Open division this weekend. I’ve watched her earlier this season and was really impressed with how well she controls the team’s backcourt. Very versatile on the backcourt, Carpenter can play defense on the middle or the left and is always very active and efficient with her play, generating several transition opportunities for her team. She’s also very calm and reliable with her passing.
Reece is another up-and-coming libero who will be in action in the 15 Open division with TAV Houston 15 Adidas. She’s easily one of the best passers in her age group in the Houston area, using her excellent movement and body positioning to pass dimes all day. Reece also makes a big impact on defense, combining her tremendous ball control with hard work to keep it off the floor. She’s also capable of helping her team from the service line with her tough floaters.
Highlights
Krueger is the best libero in the state of Texas in the class of 2025 according to our Prep Dig State Rankings and will be one of the attractions of her Austin Skyline 16 Royal team that will compete in the 16 Open division. Krueger is known for her impressive digs on the back and she’s only capable of doing those because of her excellent reading of the game, which allows her to anticipate plays, especially when dealing with tips. On serve-receive, Krueger typically covers a large portion of the court and still delivers perfect passes to her setter.
Frazier’s presence on the backcourt adds a lot to her TAV Houston 16 Adidas team that will be competing in the 16 Open division. The best things she brings to the table are probably stability and calm, two words coaches often like to have when talking about their liberos. Frazier is very technical with her actions and with her unwavering state of mind on the court, she typically makes great plays with her passing and when playing defense on the left. She’s also a very strong server.
Kieryn Adams
Kieryn Adams
Adams’ combination of dynamism on the court and technical skills make of her a very good player in her position and her team Texstar 17 will rely a lot on her in the 17 Open division. Adams is very quick with her mind and her movement, often anticipating plays and making complicated digs looks easy. She’s highly productive, typically registering tens of digs every time she goes on the court, and is extremely reliable with her passing. Besides being very consistent when setting in transition, Adams is also an outstanding server, who often creates problems to opponents from the service line.
