A trio of players who play for the Iola Mustangs stood out in a match against the Mighty Piranhas, a squad from Missouri.
Here is the third scouting report on Sunflower Wave play from Lawrence.
The Iola Mustangs are coming off a rough 6-22 season. The Mustangs were a young team with just two seniors on the varsity squad. However, the future could be bright based on the play of three players heading into their junior seasons.
Eliza Clift, 5’0”, L, Iola, ‘25
Clift had the most impressive match for the Allen County Aces. Playing Libero, Clift tallied 13 serve receptions, five digs, and one kill. Clift is a hustler with a high-running motor and has a sweet touch with her passes. Clift had 270 digs and 364 serve receptions during her sophomore season.
Alana Mader Alana Mader 5'9" | MB Iola | 2025 State KS , 5’10”, OH, Iola, ‘25
Mader is a raw talent, but she has a physical frame for volleyball. She is all arms and legs and might not be done growing. She finished with five kills and two digs in the loss to the Piranhas. During her sophomore season, Mader finished fourth on the team with 86 kills and was second in blocks with 64.
Reese Curry Reese Curry 5'10" | OH Iola | 2025 State KS , 5’9”, OH, Iola, ‘25
Curry had an overall solid match. She racked up five kills, four serve receptions, and two digs. She adjusts well to the ball and understands what to do with an imperfect pass or set. Curry led Iola in kills with 124 in her sophomore campaign. She also racked up 241 digs and led Iola with 47 aces.
Karlee Boots, 5’9”, OH, Crest, ‘25
Boots, a Crest product, has a huge upside. She collected three kills, four digs, and two serve receptions. She plays for a Lancer team that finished the 2022 season with a 26-7 record and will look to compete at a high level in Class 1A -D1 in 2023.
