Coaches will be visiting courts of commits, high priority athletes on their radar, and tagging new talent. Athletes are putting together their highlight videos, updating their University Athlete profile, and reaching out to schools about upcoming events (and this might be a subtle hint to maybe do this if you haven’t). This can be a stressful time, but also an exciting time for these athletes. Here is a quick tour of pin hitters in the Class of 2024. We have 12 athletes from 10 states who would be a great catch at the next level playing the pin.
Noelle Sutcliffe Noelle Sutcliffe 5'11" | OH Norwalk | 2024 State IA – Club Ignit Select 17 Blue (IA)
I was able to see Sutcliffe at the Iowa Top 250 and was impressed with her leaping ability and ability to score points. She is from the Des Moines area where she had a breakout high school season where she was one of the top attackers out of Central Iowa at Norwalk High School. This is a really dynamic team where they have plenty of talent across all levels for Club Ignit 17 Blue. Another available prospect to note on this team would be Brittany Bacorn Brittany Bacorn 5'10" | S Knoxville | 2024 State IA as their setter. Another top pin for this squad is Kenzie Dean who committed to Kansas in 2022.
Melia Johnson Melia Johnson 6'2" | OH Slinger | 2024 State #140 Nation WI – MKE Sting 17 Gold (WI)
Watching Sting 17 Gold for Presidents Day and Qualifier season will be a treat for fans and for college coaches. They have plenty of high level 2024 players that are available at virtually all positions. Melia Johnson Melia Johnson 6'2" | OH Slinger | 2024 State #140 Nation WI will be a key outside for Sting 17 Gold where when she strikes the ball, it just sounds different. She is extremely explosive where she can use the block, go hard cross, or pain the line. She entered high school as a middle and has really developed an all around six rotation outside game, she is a major get at the next level.
Emily Lisi Emily Lisi 6'1" | OH Wauconda | 2024 State IL – Sky High 17 Elite (IL)
I’ve seen Lisi and her Sky High squad play since their 15s year and there are plenty of players on this roster who will be at the Division 1 level in a couple years. Lisi is playing some of her best volleyball right now where she has shown she can score on the outside or the right side. She has the length and physicality to make a presence anywhere along the front line. She can attack the line and knows when to attack the split on the right side and she can score off the quick tempo to the outside.
Audrey Kocon Audrey Kocon 6'2" | S Mounds View | 2024 State #171 Nation MN – Northern Lights 17-1 (MN)
Kocon is a swiss army knife where she can play on the right side or she can set (I’ve also seen her play middle when needed as well). She was a Large Class All State pick in Minnesota this past fall and will be a big pick up at the next level because she can do so many things for her side of the net. She can swing, set, block, defend – total swiss army knife. This Northern Lights team will be in the hunt for an open bid this season where they have great ball control and nice balance of weapons to use along the front line.
Alexis Maesch Alexis Maesch 5'10" | RS Avon | 2024 State IN – Circle City 17 Purple (IN)
I was able to see Maesch live at Central Zone with her Circle City squad and was impressed with what she can do on the right side. A fast, left handed swing, she has an approach where she has no fear in letting it rip. She has the physicality and presence at the net to compete at a high level. Her family is familiar with high level volleyball where her older sister Abby is playing at Georgia. Abby Maesch is someone who can contribute at the next level and adds a different dimension to any team she is on.
Chloe Smith Chloe Smith OH Assumption | 2024 State KY – KiVA 17 Red (KY)
Smith is another one I was able to see at Central Zone for KiVA where she is your prototypical outside hitter that is extremely well trained, fundamental sound. What is most impressive for Smith are her last two steps to the ball. She can get her feet to the ball whether she is in or out of system. Out of system was most impressive as she can accelerate to get a high contact, scoring to the deep corner or the line. This KiVA 17 Red team was fun to watch and there are still plenty of athletes who are available on this team who are uncommitted that would make an impact at the next level.
Addie Kanouff – Colorado Juniors 17 Kevin (CO)
I was able to see Kanouff at the Colorado State Tournament this past fall where she was a key player for Cherry Creek in Colorado’s large class. At 6’5, Kanouff is someone who is a major presence on the right side. She is a really tough mismatch because she is attacking at a different angle and she is always going to be a block the attacker thinks about when swinging. This CO Jrs 17s team will definitely be in the conversation for an open bid, and to be one of the top teams in the country. Kanouff and her team will have plenty of coaches on their courts come Presidents Day at NIT.
Vivian Parker Vivian Parker 6'0" | OH Aledo | 2024 State #52 Nation TX – Drive Nation 17 Red (TX)
Parker is one of the top available prospects out of the Class of 2024 in Texas, she is a six rotation outside hitter who is so solid all the way around. Drive Nation 17 Red will be one of the top 17s team in the country this season and Parker provides a consistency on the pin where she can defend, score, and do what is needed to get the W for her team. What is impressive about her game from the outside is her vision. She finds the open spot, she can avoid the block, or use the block to her advantage. She is incredibly efficient and is a big time get at the college level, making any gym better.
Emma Hoing Emma Hoing 5'10" | RS Quincy Notre Dame | 2024 State IL – Rockwood Thunder 17 Navy (IL/MO)
Hoing is another athlete who gets to double dip in two states where she plays on the Illinois side at Quincy Notre Dame where they were one of the top high school teams in Western Illinois. For club ball, she is a key player for Rockwood Thunder 17 Navy where she is a big time point scorer on the outside. I’ve seen her play at the Wisconsin Team Camp and the club courts and she’s consistent with how she can score and elevate her team. Rockwood Thunder 17 Navy snagged a bid at NLQ at the end of January and will be playing in plenty of key day three qualifier matches this season.
Renee Jones Renee Jones 6'5" | RS Flint Hill | 2025 State #132 Nation FL – Metro 17 Travel (MD)
6’5, left handed right side? Sure, why not. Jones plays for Metro 17 Travel out of the DC area where she has quite the reach and presence at the net. She’s long, athletic, and has a major upside to her game where she is a tough block to get around. Offensively, she can score points and has great potential at being an elite level point scorer. Metro always has teams who are in contention for qualifying at the open level. This team will be
Kayla Robertson Kayla Robertson 6'0" | MB St. Dominic | 2024 State MO – HPSTL 17 Royal (MO)
Another athlete I was able to see live at Central Zone, Robertson is an extremely physical and athletic attacker for HTPSTL 17 Royal. She is the type of athlete where I feel she could be on any team, court, or field and she’s going to be one of the top athletes in the group. She’s touching over ten feet and has a violent swing. A lot of fun to watch. She is in a recruiting battle ground for the Missouri Valley and Ohio Valley Conferences where she would be a must get for those teams. Mizzou also has a new staff where she could be a local prospect to keep close to home.
