Continue ReadingThis coming weekend we will have some of the best talent in the nation in action playing at different venues around the Dallas Metroplex area. We had a fantastic time watching some of the wonderful matchups during the first stop in Austin last month and will be in person once again to help showcase some of the amazing players who stand out. This series will be to give everyone a preview of some of the players that we cannot wait to see in action. Let’s meet a few of the setters who will be in action and deserve some looks by college recruiters.
Payton Stroud [2025] 5-9 Setter (HS: The Woodlands/Club: Houston Juniors /Verbal: Uncommitted)
Payton is currently an unranked prospect in the 2025 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings, but is on our watch list of players that we are considering. She plays high school volleyball for The Woodlands High School and club for the famed Houston Juniors volleyball club. This lengthy lefty runs a 6-2 for HJV and they are coming into the tourney seeded first after a phenomenal run through stop number one. They do have some amazing height and power in their offense but need a setter to deliver a hittable ball to them and that is exactly what Payton does. She has been very accurate in her location and is moving the ball around nicely to all of her amazing attackers early in the season. She is new to the club but has great chemistry so far with her middles, which is paying off nicely in their offensive production. We will be watching her production very closely during stop 2.
Jacy Carrejo Jacy Carrejo 5'11" | S Leander | 2025 State TX [2025] 5-11 Setter/Right Side (HS: Leander/Club: Austin Skyline//Verbal: Uncommitted)
Jacy is currently ranked as the 29th best overall prospect and the 7th best setter in the 2025 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays at Leander High School and for the awesome Austin Skyline club program. I have written about this talented setter many times and every wonderful adjective we used in each article has been warranted when it comes to describe her abilities. She is just stellar to watch on the court as she battles with her awesome teammates. Her length can be a big problem for opponents as they have to account for her jump at all times, which can throw off their timing to close on the block. Her fundamentals are very sound when it comes to delivery of the ball, but what truly stands out to me is how she loves to run her hitters on a faster tempo than most. This is what makes her so deadly. She is like a sniper that is pinpoint accurate with every location she delivers to. We think very highly of her technical skill set and strongly suggest that all college coaches keep her name at the top of your short list when it comes to game changing setters that you need for your program.
Caelyn Dumas Caelyn Dumas 5'10" | S Tompkins | 2025 State TX [2025] 5-9 Setter (HS: Paetow/Club: Absolute Volleyball Academy/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Caelyn is currently an unranked prospect in the 2025 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. Miss Dumas plays at Paetow High School and also for the awesome Absolute Volleyball Academy club program. She is a solid left-handed setter who has a lot of power to push the ball all around the court no matter where she is standing. Her upper body is super strong and that helps her with deliver and also stifling the opposing serve receivers with her float serve. While everyone will be in awe of her ability to keep her hitters in system, I think it is prudent to speak about her defensive ability in the right back zone. She keeps her team in every rally if the ball is near her zone. I was able to watch her closely in person at one of our Top 250 Expos in December and she stood out to every coach that was in attendance. Caelyn is someone who’s stock is currently rising as she continues to produce at a very high level against some great competition. We think you should know her name for sure and cannot wait to watch her compete in Dallas.
