They go from one responsibility on the court to another so their agility and athleticism need to be pretty solid. Meet ten outside hitters who played in the 37th annual Las Vegas Classic. They are the hidden gems who stepped into their position with the ability, skills, and talent to grow further in the sport. They are in order of their graduating year.
Jordin Taulua
Jordin Taulua
Jordin Taulua has such a quick swing back that her hits are explosive. She brings power and force to the ball. She can pass from back row to start an effective offense and block at the net on defense. She knows how to adjust to a bad set and will still make a play. Taulua is an all-around smart player who knows how to tip over the block or hit through the seam. She is a great player with confidence and skills to hit anywhere on the court. Coached by Gus Tuaniga and his assistants, Jordin is a player being featured.
Holly Horner
Holly Horner
Holly Horner is a hitter who can score on a perfect set and can also adjust to off-the-net or over-the-shoulder sets. She has good ball-handling skills and knows how to penetrate the net for a solid block. Horner is a key passer in serve receive and can make a play on third contact anywhere the ball is set. She reacts to covering the hitter who gets the set if it doesn’t come to her. Coached by Ray Banaag and his assistants, Holly is a player being showcased.
Loynes Taumanupepe
Loynes Taumanupepe
Loynes Taumanupepe is an all-around six-rotation player who is an asset on offense and defense. She has a strong swing and can score at the net. She can pass from back row and dig the ball, often creating a perfect pass. Taumanupepe knows how to adjust her hits by changing direction and speed. Coached by Litara Keil and her assistant, Loynes is a player being recognized.

Makenna Tillman Makenna Tillman 5'8" | OH Citrus Valley | 2025 CA
Makenna Tillman Makenna Tillman 5’8″ | OH Citrus Valley | 2025 CA has a fast powerful hit that speeds up the ball to score. Her high IQ shows when she reads the court and finds the open areas. She can hit from both sides of the court, placing the ball with a regular kill, roll shot, tip, or downline. She can also score from pipe and tool the block. Tillman also has great defense and will dive or dig to save a ball. She can pass and she has a float serve that curves on the way down. Coached by Vu Dinh, Samantha Middleborn, and Danny Scott, Makenna is a player being featured.
Riley O’Day
Riley O’Day
Riley O’Day gets low to the ground ready for an attack in middle back. Once the ball comes her way, she passes to her setter to start the offense. She is light on her feet and gets on the ground to stop a ball from scoring. O’Day can hit through a block or tool it to score. She shuffles back quickly to begin her approach. Coached by Lindsey Olhausen Scott and her assistants, O’Day is a player being showcased.
Neeva Gaine
Neeva Gaine
Neeva Gaine’s hang time and vertical from back row made hitting pipe look easy. She shows her flexibility and explosiveness by having to jump, dive and get back up as quickly as possible. She can adjust her approach depending on the type of set she receives. Even with a bad set, she can still produce power. Gaine can find an open area and deliver different forms of attacks like cross court or downline. Coached by Alison West and Cat Thomason, Neeva is a player being featured.
Saige Alpay
Saige Alpay
Saige Alpay stays on the court, playing front and back row. She can hit and block at the net, she can dig and pass in the back. Every play, she transitions out and is ready for a set. Coached by Hannah Phair and assistants, Saige is a player being recognized.
Madeline Seabury
Madeline Seabury
Madeline Seabury gets up in the air to kill the ball or tip over the block. She can place the ball well by creating different attacks and adjusting to sets. She has a strong hit and quick arm swing. On defense, Seabury knows how to receive the serve and help block with the middle. Coached by Kate Whitney, Cinnamon DaSilva and Kristen Whitney Madeline is a player being showcased.
Kalani Soares
Kalani Soares
Kalani Soares also plays beach volleyball and does track and field. She is quick with her approach and gets high in the air to deliver a fast attack. She times the ball perfectly in order to get on top of it. She has a fast swing that speeds up the velocity of the ball. She knows how to react at the net by recovering a tip or stopping the ball with a block. Soares has a nice serve that can go right above the tape. Coached by Matt Terra, Courtney Thacker and Jerry Vang Kalani is a player being showcased.
Avarie Bushay
Avarie Bushay
Avarie Bushay appeared cool and calm on the court. Bushay has a good serve that can get her opponent out of system. She knows how to block at the net and get back into position to start her approach. Coached by Vu Din and his assistants, Avarie is a player being recognized.
