The Class of 2024 has plenty of experience in the prep spotlight, but there are always opportunities for new names to rise to the forefront at any given event. That’s evidenced by our significant list of athletes to be plugged into this latest update. With all these new names, let’s take a moment to get everyone acquainted.
Here are some brief details on our latest additions to Nebraska’s 2024 rankings.
Teahon is going to be one of several small-town talents to appear on this feature. The Sandhills/Thedford setter joins the fray in our 2024 rankings as a hidden gem in this stacked class.
Highlights
Hall has provided an instant spark of right-side offense for Nebraska Juniors 17 Black. A nice combination of physicality and efficiency landed this Hershey native on our latest update.
We previously mentioned the successful outing that Schuerman had with Nebraska ONE 17 Black at last month’s Presidents’ Day Classic. This outside hitter was just bound to be a new addition to our 2024 rankings. Keep an eye on Schuerman when she competes with Wilber-Clatonia on the prep side, too.
Warner follows up Shuerman as another Nebraska ONE 17 Black addition to the rankings. The Waverly libero has put up her share of impressive digs in early-season action and is particularly effective in the right-back area. This team is on the rise.
Gilbert has seen big stages before as a contributor to the Papillion-La Vista High School powerhouse. On the club side, this versatile outside hitter applies that experience with Banzai VBC 17 Select and has the potential to take over matches.
Like Schuerman, Stones has garnered some recent attention for her outside attacking success at early-season events. Club Legacy 17 Alpha loves to lean on its pin hitters in clutch sitautions, and Stones has been one of the players to consistently deliver at that position.
Surely, we can’t heap all the credit on 17 Alpha’s outside hitters. Loveless has had a persistent presence in the middle during Club Legacy’s hot streak, as she offers the length and contact point to dominate in the frontcourt.
Whether it’s in the middle or on the outside, Sadler is sure to make a splash. Her recent breakthroughs with Nebraska ONE 17 Black have come on the left-side hitter spot, and expect Sadler to do the same with Lincoln Northeast. More big names keep emerging around the Capitol City, and Nebraska ONE has been a big beneficiary.
The Shelburne name has been synonymous with Gretna’s volleyball success for a while. This latest Shelburne iteration is currently tear it up as a middle blocker for Nebraska ONE 17 Black, so the family success is not limited to one position. Recent tournaments have revealed Shelburne’s incredible knack for scoring behind the setter with her lateral quickness.
Grabenstein is making the most out of every on-court opportunity. We saw flashes of her attacking prowess when she competed with Class B runner-up Elkhorn North last fall. Now, Grabenstein is taking that skill and power to the aforementioned Club Legacy 17 Alpha lineup that is poised for big things down the stretch.
Nebraska Elite 17 Alpha is another under-the-radar team that we’ll be tracking throughout the season, and players like Kelsay help put this group on the map. Her role at the middle blocker spot will be a vital one following a breakout performance at the Presidents’ Day Classic.
As if the depth of Nebraska ONE wasn’t impressive enough, we have an entry from 17 Lime for this feature. Luebbe has made a habit of digging some heat for this up-and-coming squad that showed its terrific balance on the Presidents’ Day Classic stage.
Now, we’re bringing Club Legacy 17 Bravo into the conversation. Schofield is surging to the forefront as a backcourt anchor for her squad, and that should translate to an even bigger role with Gross Catholic in her senior campaign.
Our run of 17 Bravo ball control specialists continues. Sattem helped make history last fall when her DC West team broke through to the state tournament. She is now another key cog in the Club Legacy machine that made a strong push last month.
Wilkinson was due to make an appearance on our 2024 rankings, and now that time has come. The Omaha Concordia defender can flex into a variety of roles with 17 Alpha and has shown that she can thrive in every one of them.
River City Jrs enters the picture with Buttermore representing 17 Navy on this feature. We’ll have a few more athletes on this roster to feature over the coming weeks, but we couldn’t hold out on mentioning Buttermore after her strong start to 2023.
We haven’t mentioned Premier Nebraska yet, but Fontana is here to fix that. This savvy right-side hitter is back with a Premier 17 Silver squad that took massive leaps forward in 2022.
Finally, we have another Lincoln-area standout who makes her mark with Nebraska ONE . Mayfield has been an adaptable attacker for 17 Lime who can play in the middle or at opposite. Either way, she’s been a huge catalyst for the team’s emergence in the state spotlight.
