These athletes may have been flying under the radar, but their hard work and progress have them standing out for their teams. We continue to watch for players that are making a difference at all levels, here are six that played well at PNQ.
Haynes is a fiery defender with a great attitude in the libero position. Idaho Crush tried her in the serve receive, she angled her platform and delivered passes right on target to her setter. Haynes uses her platform to set the pins in transition off the second ball, she confidently kept the offense moving even from deep in the backcourt.
Ping has great footwork, and the junior setter is a focused and skilled floor leader for her team. The SIVBC 17 Storm team had some big wins over the weekend, and the standout from Newport High School played a big part in the team’s success. She has a calm setup, and with her neutral hands, she can hold blockers and gives herself the maximum chance for success on a setter dump. Ping celebrates a terrific swing from her hitters with awesome emotion, we love to see it!
Haddaler has a strong frame and is powerful when attacking from either pin. She has a hard-angle swing, and a corner shot down the line she likes to utilize. Haddaler can close quickly on a tip or roll, and she gets a good read on the opposing offense and defense. With excellent size and length, she is a high-ceiling player who will be a handful as she continues to grow her game.
Johnson is going full throttle at all times, and this weekend she showed an all-around game at the PNQ. She was serving tough, passing well out of the back row, and bringing her power in the front row as she always does. She did attack from the outside in school ball at times, and SNVF is utilizing that versatility to find her scoring chances. We love a Johnson overpass kill, she has great timing and snap when she is putting a ball away.

Highlights
The libero from Shorewood is not afraid to set up super close to the net when she is covering her attackers. She has a terrific knack for popping up balls off the block before they hit the floor. Her passing out of serve receive is terrific, and many of her Blue Royals opponents tried to target anyone but her with their serve. In the match against Forza1 West 17, Okamura threw herself all over the court making terrific saves, and hitting the floor frequently in pursuit of keeping a rally alive.
Playing the libero spot for RVC 17 Brenna, Witherow hung in against heavy swings all tournament long. Against Excel NW 17, she delivered accurately in serve receive, and RVC was able to run the middle and score. Witherow passes free balls at a good tempo, letting her setter run a fast-tempo offense. Importantly, her energy and communication stayed at a high level on the court. The junior defender was first in line to cheer on a teammate or call a ball out throughout the tournament.
