Continue ReadingThe Rankings Tournament is held each year in hopes of bringing the best of the best from each age group and pitting them against one another. This is a huge help when it comes to the regional tournament in early May. With head to head matches on file, they can make more accurate seeding decisions. PLUS, a full day of great volleyball in late February. I was able to attend the first half of the day and was able to finally see some top teams I have missed out on watching thus far. Lets take a look out how it all shook out and some of the talent on these teams.
Finish:
1st- Peak 16-1
2nd- TPV 16-1
3rd- OK Charge 16UA
4th- UPVBC 16 Elite
5th- Premier 16s Diamonds
6th- Peak 16-2
7th- UPVBC 16 Pink
8th- TPV 16-2
Wrap Up:
WOW! Just WOW. Peak 16-1 shocked the state of Oklahoma by winning the Rankings tournament. In route, they beat Peak 16-2, TPV 16-2, Charge 16UA, UPVBC 16 Elite and TPV 16-1. In dramatic fashion, they win their pool 15-11 in the 3rd set against the undefeated Charge 16UA squad. They were the heavy favorites on AES, the poll and on paper but this is exactly why we play the game! I love seeing these type of matches and results. Players like Sydney Dunkleberger Sydney Dunkleberger 5'7" | S Edmond North | 2025 State OK , Greer DeLeon Greer DeLeon 5'10" | OH Bishop McGuinness | 2025 State OK , Morgan Manning Morgan Manning 5'4" | DS/L Deer Creek | 2025 State OK , Georgia Byers Georgia Byers 5'11" | MB Deer Creek | 2025 State OK and Victoria Gray Victoria Gray 5'10" | OH Community Christian | 2024 State OK are on top level high school teams and this top tier club team. They are all competitors at heart and are extremely skilled at their position. This team was primed for a huge matchup like this. Add in the OKC rivalry aspect and you got one of the biggest firework displays possible. The only thing that could make this better is if we get the same matchup at regionals with a big on the line, late in the season. Although, both teams will have a good shot at securing a bid prior to that. I think we would all love to see a rematch.
We have to acknowledge the fact that TPV continues to push themselves up the ladder of the club world. This is only their second year as a club and already have seven teams competing here at the rankings tournament. The leaders of the club, the 16s group, has continued to show brilliance. Top tier coaching, talent and teamwork make the TPV 16-1 squad a dangerous opponent for anyone in the nation. We have covered a multitude of their players previously but they are a deep team. Players like Olivia Tucker Olivia Tucker 6'1" | MB Lincoln Christian | 2025 OK has great size and athleticism, Ojo Mopelola has some power locked and loaded in her shoulder, and a shifty, hard working DS in Sarah Scott. They will begin their tour across the US in search of a bid. My guess they snag one at SHOW ME. They have had success in the area and it will pay off there.
UPVBC 16 Elite is another team I think will have a shot at getting a national big in the coming months. They are just a win or two away from getting over the hump at a big tournament. Elite OH play from Emry Brown Emry Brown 6'1" | OH Bartlesville | 2025 State OK and Grace Marshall Grace Marshall 5'11" | OH Broken Arrow Freshman Academy | 2025 State OK always gives the opponent problems. Tack on outstanding effort from Mylee Moore Mylee Moore 6'0" | OH Jenks | 2025 State OK and Brenna Weaver Brenna Weaver 5'8" | S Booker T Washington | 2025 State OK , both of which, will explode on the high school scene this upcoming season and you have a team that is sneaky good.
Poll and Best Wishes
