This coming weekend, some of the top teams from Texas will make the trip West in order to take part in the traditional Red Rock Rave Qualifier in Las Vegas, which will be held from Saturday to Monday at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.
The event will serve as a qualifier for the Open, American, Liberty and USA divisions in the 16s, 17s and 18s age groups. As we get ready for it, let’s know some of the most talented players from the Lone Star State who will be in action in the Open divisions. It’s time we shortlist some outside hitters who will have a big role in their teams.
After playing one age group up last season, Davis is back with her own group as a big part of Drive Nation 16 Red that will compete in the 16 Open division. It’s hard to point out a single strength in her game because there are so many worth of recognition. She’s tall, the most physical player on the court on most occasions and still very technical and smart with her actions. Davis is a hugely influential player because of her ability to contribute on both sides of the ball and her natural tendency to take protagonism on everything her teams do on the court.
Brianna Hamilton
Brianna Hamilton
A middle blocker earlier in her career, Hamilton has been a stud at the pin for her Areté 17 Navy Telos team that will be on the court in the 17 Open division. She has always been an extremely athletic prospect, but has made great strides with her overall game and is now a player capable of contributing in every area of the game. Hamilton’s physicality is a big part of her offense, but she can also score with roll shots and is smart enough to pick the right shot to each situation. She’s also a very good blocker and a decent backcourt player.
Her Drive Nation 17 Red team that will be competing in the 17 Open division in Vegas is stacked in every position, but make sure you watch Lambert when they’re on the court. She’s a fascinating outside hitter with unbelievable athleticism and who doesn’t back down from any challenge. Lambert will keep swinging no matter what but the variety of shots and the excellent reading of the game she has make the task of stopping her become nearly impossible. Although her offense is what stands out the most in her game, Lambert is a very complete player, who also delivers a lot at the backcourt.
Highlights
A very talented indoor and beach player, Jackson will be a solid presence at the pin for TAV 18 Black in the 18 Open division. Her excellent all-around skills and her great understanding of the game are what allow her to not only play, but actually make an impact among older players. Jackson’s ball control is excellent and that reflects in every aspect of her game. She’s a heavy hitter, but perhaps the most interesting aspect of her offense is her vision, maybe something she developed when playing on the sand. Jackson has great timing with her offensive approach and is always scanning blockers and defenders through the net, what highly increases her efficiency.
After carrying the offense of her high school team Tompkins from the right, Tchouangwa is back at her original pin hitter position with HJV 18 Elite and will be one of the most lethal attackers in the 18 Open division. Extremely athletic, she’s an outstanding offensive player, who not only jumps high and hits the ball hard but also who delivers in the big moments. Because Tchouangwa’s offense is so impressive, sometimes it feels like her backcourt skills are overlooked, but make no mistake, she’s a very reliable passer and a player who can make big digs on defense.
