I had the pleasure of watching a lot of the 15 Iowa regional qualifying tournament this past weekend here at the RecPlex. I witnessed a lot of solid all-around performances.
Here are some of them:
Reese Naeve Reese Naeve 5'9" | OH Iowa City Regina Catholic | 2026 State IA , Rockets R – I saw Naeve play with Iowa City Regina way back at the beginning of the prep season. I was impressed with her game then. I’m more impressed after watching her here.
Naeve (’26) can do it all. It’s tough deciding what she does best. It’s probably outside hitting but the other skills are close behind, if at all.
Abby Jensen, Six Pack – What was written above about Naeve also applies to Jensen. Her talents are diverse.
I watched Jensen (’26) fit in as a freshman on a loaded Dike-New Hartford team when it won another state title in November. I gained a greater appreciation for her full set of skills at regionals. She showed capabilities of a big sophomore campaign.
Kaelyn Wieland Kaelyn Wieland 5'8" | S West Des Moines Valley | 2026 State IA , Ignit Select – Like the others on this list, Wieland stresses opponents from anywhere on the court. I saw her help West Des Moines Valley to the big-class state semifinals during her freshman season in the Fall. She stood out then and again this past weekend.
Wieland shares another common trait with the other players on this list. She excels with a high level of athleticism. She jumps really well with quick-twitch reflexes.
Lauren Olson, PowerPlex – I wrote about Olson this past Winter after watching her as a freshman on Indianola’s basketball team. She shined during my first time watching her play volleyball, too.
Olson swings it well from the left side, probably her best spot, but contributes at the net and in the back row with an effective serve.
McKenzie Moeller, Select Mizuno – Moeller played a key role in Select reaching the tournament championship against Rockets. She helped all around the court.
Moeller hits with pace from the outside with excellent leaping ability and power. She holds up well in the back row, too, passes accurately and delivers serves with good movement.
Aspen Sparks, CIA – Sparks fits the mold of the players listed before her on this list. She helps her team wherever it needs her.
Harper Pacha, Adrenaline/Paul – The Wellman Mid-Prairie High product chipped in all around the floor during a successful weekend for Adrenaline. She hits well from the left side and also converts tough digs into strong passes.
