Sparking all these heat comes from the hands of some high level setting. it was all here in the 17 Open with some of the best setters of tomorrow all on tap for this incredible weekend.
Here are some of the top setters coming out of the 2023 Mid-East Qualifier.
Izzy Starck – Colorado Juniors (Penn State)
A real do-it-all act for Juniors, it was Starck’s versatility that became a real driving force to an undefeated weekend and MEQ title. Starck has the Midas touch on the court and it’s a lot of fun to watch.
Regan Kadel – Colorado Junior
This team is the definition of stacked. Hitters galore, great depth at defense and even at the setting position, Juniors has it all. Kadel creates the perfect 1-2 punch for this team and can run a championship winning offense.
Reese Messer – Dynasty
Messer may be the young pup in this 17s group, but she holds her own pretty well! Only a sophomore, Messer has become a premier setter in this division and showed her chops off, leading Dynasty to a Runner-Up finish.
Emily Bobbitt – Triangle (Iowa State)
I haven’t seen Bobbitt in action since last club season. Then, she was running a 6-2, and now, she’s got full reigns and leading beautifully! She’s gifted with an artillery of weapons and her calls on who to use, and when, goes a long way!
Allie Shondell – Boiler Juniors (Purdue)
You’ll never be bored watching this setter on the court, doing her thing! This weekend was a real test for Shondell and the Boilers. After dropping two in a row, Shondell led this team to avenge an early season loss to Academy and run away with the third and final bid!
Leah Richmond – Academy (Western Michigan)
While a tough go about on paper for Academy, Richmond never failed to shine on the court! She can be one of the most dynamic players in the gym and she had to really pull out all the stops in Indy, leading Academy to a top ten finish.
Lucy Mott – Legacy (Boston College)
Without her top two scorers from last season, seeing how this setter can still piece together a respectable offense is impressive! Mott has always been a game changer and she was especially at MEQ!
Avery Woodard – Michigan Elite
I am really pleased to see this player back out on the court and playing as though she never left. Woodard is surely back and had a commendable weekend. Arguably the best defensive setter I saw on the weekend, Woodard does a lot more for this team than meets the eye!
