A part of the first line of defense at the net, middle blockers are some of the biggest kids in the gym. These middles were some of the best in the gym.
Here are some of the top middle blockers coming out of the 2023 Mid-East Qualifier.
Addison Makun – KIVA
KIVA is at no shortage of power in the middle, and they all know how to show up and show out. Makun made her mark the first two days of MEQ as she usually does. Makun is one of the most physical players you can find at the position and is big point scorer.
Elise Hart – KIVA
Think you’re getting a break when the middles rotate? Nope. Just another 6’3+ powerhouse you have to try to slow down and work around. Hart had another impressive weekend and stepped up big when called upon.
Bailey Blair – KIVA
You have to love a good utility player that can deliver at ANY position you throw her in. Blair saw a big chunk of action en route to the championship run on Sunday in the middle. And man, did she deliver! Stepping into some big shoes, Blair was huge!
Reese Dunkle – Circle City
This squad isn’t the biggest along the roster, but Dunkle makes up that gap of size in the middle, standing at 6’3. She’s dynamic, fluid in her motions and just is so hard to defend for Circle City. Never a disappointing run when Dunkle is at the net.
Olivia Grenadier – Legacy
It’s rare to see a middle at this level scoring the amount of points this middle does, but thats how good Grenadier is! She’s a player with a lot of speed and reads the opponent so well. Whether its in her block or her insane connection with her setter, it is a near guarantee she scores every chance she has.
Lauren Johnson – Michigan Elite
This was a breakout weekend for this middle. On one of the top teams in the country for the 16s, Johnsons always been an exceptional blocker. MEQ saw Johnson not only tune the blocking dial up, but her offense was on point! Johnson is quickly developing as a premier watch in the 16 Open.
Shelby Ignash – Michigan Elite
Similar to KIVA, there’s no break in pressure in the middle when it comes to Michigan Elite. Ignash had another superb outing as one of the most potent attackers off one foot. Like her teammate Johnson, Ignash showed a lot of growth in the blocking department this weekend.
