There are players we knew would be outstanding, players that shocked us with how much they have grown in their athleticism and skills, and some we just didn’t know where out there. We are taking a look at those who are skyrocketing up in the world of Oklahoma volleyball.
West Side:
Greer DeLeon Greer DeLeon 5'10" | OH Bishop McGuinness | 2025 State OK #4, Outside Hitter for Peak 16-1. Greer had a break out season last year for Bishop McGuinness. As they made it all the way to the state championship match behind a 32-4 record. It seems that wherever she goes, wins follow close behind. Her club team currently sits at 92nd in the nation. This is because she adds value with her front row presence and how she makes those around her better players too. Look for Peak 16-1 to finish strong and McGuinness to make another 5A title run.
Alani Wilmoth #6, Outside Hitter for OK Premier 16 Diamonds. I was able to see her play in person for the first time this season last weekend. They also ran the table and won that tournament. Her and her team earned their AAU bid this weekend at their home tournament. Her power is something to fear. I witnessed a couple times blockers turn around and rub their hands when they were able to get a block touch. She does a great job of staying out wide and working into the court with her approach. This gives her the full court to swing at and keeps the ball on her inside shoulder. I look forward to this upcoming school season to see what she do there.
East Side:
Emry Brown Emry Brown 6'1" | OH Bartlesville | 2025 State OK #7, Outside Hitter for UPVBC 16 Elite. My oh my! she can play and colleges need to find ways to see it for themselves. She is a part of a two pronged OH attack at Bartlesville. It isn’t much different on her club team either. It isn’t a question of IF she will score, its HOW MUCH will she. Her range and decision making ability are among some of the best in the state. She continues to impress us each season.
Ashley Nielsen #6, Outside Hitter for OK Charge 16UA East. She had moments on Bixby’s varsity team where she immediately would impact the game after coming off the bench. This year, she will likely be one of their main guns in the front row. This has been a good club season for her. Her and her team sit at 10th in the state currently. She has power in her swing and has continued to develop her control. She gains a lot of power via her powerful approach she takes. Next year could be her year!
