This year’s 18’s squad has really got a solid group of talent with plenty of size to compete with anyone.
Here’s a closer look at what 18 Megalodons has to offer.
Northshore 18 Megalodons
This squad is coached by Hannah Pohlman and features of 2023, 2024 and 2025 prospects.
Northshore features a lot of hitting power, led by dominant middle Carissa Musta Carissa Musta 6'3" | MB Cadillac | 2024 State MI . Musta comes from the Cadillac program where she helped lead the Vikings to the D2 championship game this past fall. At 6’4”, Musta is a dominant blocker and one of the most consistent finishers in the state. The 2024 prospect can play the RS as well as the middle.
Phoebe Humphrey Phoebe Humphrey 6'0" | OH Traverse City Central | 2024 State MI is another talented 2024 hitter for Northshore. The Traverse City Central product can play anywhere along the net. She has a great read of the blockers and can connect quickly with her setters. Humphrey has a mix of speeds on her shot and can attack the angles.
Along with Musta and Humphrey, Northshore has a lot of depth to use in the middle. Kynadi Dole (Davenport) and Morgan Deming Morgan Deming 6'2" | MB Boyne City | 2023 MI (Lake Superior State) are a pair of 2023 committed middles, while Fiona Moord Fiona Moord 6'2" | MB Leland | 2024 State MI comes from the strong Leland program.
Deming is a 6’2” middle from Boyne City. She’s a multi-sport star, playing basketball as well. Her movement as a 6’2” athlete is impressive. Deming has a lot of quickness and agility. It makes her a dominant blocker defensively.
Dole comes from Grayling and is 6 feet. During the prep season, Dole has played both outside and the middle. She does a great job of high-pointing the ball and working around blockers. The game seems to come very naturally to her.
Moord is a 6’1” hitter from Leland that has been able to show dominant stretches of play. She makes athletic plays and has a good read on the opposing defense. Moord is also very active defensively at the net.
On the outside, Northshore has Ava Belcher, Abby Radulski and Mackenzie Johns as options.
Radulski is a 2023 product from Gaylord. She is able to play either pin and has a solid all-around game. Radulski has a good feel for the game and has a sound defensive skillset.
Belcher is a 5’11”, 2024 outside prospect. She also has been working on polishing her ability to be a six-rotation hitter. Belcher has nice explosiveness at the net and is becoming more consistent at finishing points.
Johns is a 2024 hitter that also comes from the Cadillac program. At 6’0”, Johns also has become a real factor at the net with her defensive ability. She grew a lot during the prep season and has developed into a solid all-around player.
Northshore works with two setters in 2024’s Ava Tarsi and 2025’s Cassie Jenema.
Tarsi comes from Boyne City and is able to run a fast-tempo offense. She’s got a nice spring in her step and can accurately make a quick set to give her hitters a high chance of success. Tarsi looks comfortable in a leadership role.
Jenema is a 2025 setter from Cadillac. She did a great job of running the Vikings’ offense this past fall and is coming into her own with the position. Jenema has a lot of composure and leadership ability for a 2025 player. She also has good awareness of when to call her own number.
The Northshore defense is ran by libero Natalie Bourdo Natalie Bourdo 5'3" | DS/L Traverse City Central | 2024 State MI from Traverse City Central. Bourdo covers a lot of space in the back row and plays very composed. Her technique is smooth and typically leads to an accurate feed to the setter. She’s the unsung hero of this powerful squad.
Amaleah Streit and Lucy Tarachas are a pair of 2024’s that provide defensive depth in the back row. Streit comes from Traverse City West, while Tarachas is from Petoskey. Both are feisty players that aren’t afraid to get beat up on the court to make plays. They also have improving serve games to help make Northshore complete.
This large roster has produced good results thus far in the 2023 season. It placed second in the 17/18 Open of the Lake Michigan Open Power League. It then placed second in the 18 Club/Classic of the 2023 Presidents Day Challenge.
The most recent outing was early last month, finishing sixth in the 18 Club Division of the Adidas Bluegrass Tournament.
With a lot of different ages mixed together, this team has shown a lot of promising chemistry. They have the size at the net, so as long as they can be technically sound, they should compete in most events.
