We are going to take a look at a few players from each class on both sides of the state that could have a break out season in 2023. We will start with the second largest class, 5A.
Players:
Alexis Schauffler Alexis Schauffler 5'9" | OH Coweta | 2024 State OK – She is an outside hitter for Coweta. She was a staple in their offense last season and played great down the stretch. She is very athletically gifted and has the ability to get in the air quickly. I predict she will join the list of All State players the Tigers produce.
Ella Ramsey Ella Ramsey 5'7" | OH Claremore Highschool | 2025 OK – She is an Outside hitter for Claremore. Plagued by an injury last season, she was only able to serve and pass the back half of the year. However, she has been very productive this club season and will be back to causing problems for other teams in all sorts of ways. Ella has the ability to be a solid 6 rotation player for the Zebras with her strong arm and fast feet.
Tyla Heard Tyla Heard 6'0" | RS Sapulpa | 2024 State OK – She is a right side hitter for Sapulpa. She is an athlete through and through. She will be turning it up a notch for her senior campaign. She has a ton of power in her swings and has the ability to alter opposing hitter’s swings with her massive block. She helped start Sapulpa’s state apprearance run and she will look to tack on one more years worth under her watch.
Brooklyn Hicks- She is a middle hitter for Collinsville. She transferred this past summer from Broken Arrow to Collinsville. Collinsville not only got a talented middle but also a new head coach. Now that both have had a year to work on things, they will be looking to scoot into the top 10. Brooklyn has had another solid club season at Virago. She has the ability to get the crowd on their feet and making noise with some of the huge swings she puts down.
Tyra McKinnie Tyra McKinnie 6'0" | MB Glenpool | 2026 OK – She is a middle hitter for Glenpool. Colleges need to circle this name. She made the most of her freshman year and it will only get better for her and Glenpool. Glenpool also got a new head coach last season, alongside a group of very talented underclassmen. Tyra plays for UPVBC 15-1 and that type of daily tough competition is going to elevate her game to a whole new level. Watch for Glenpool to make its way into the top 3 in 2023.
Wrap Up:
5A is made up of the 33-64 largest schools in the state. Most of these schools are just on the outskirts of Tulsa and OKC. The east side made up 3 of the 8 teams in the state tournament, with Coweta, Sapulpa and Glenpool all punching their tickets. Claremore finished the year at #9, Collinsville at #12, and Edison at #15. All of them will be looking to find a way in the playoffs and knock out a west side school to try and even it at four a piece.
