Pohaku’s 16-1 squad qualified for gold bracket play but finished their season falling to MAVS KC 16-2 in the second match of Sunday play.
Prep Dig scouted Pohaku’s first match of the tournament, a 25-17, 25-8 victory over the Missouri Juniors 16-2 squad.
Here is a report on four players who helped guide Pohaku to a 5-2 match record over the weekend including a couple of “heavy hitters.”
Bria Dawson Bria Dawson 6'0" | MB Olathe North | 2025 State KS , 6’0”, MH, Olathe North
Dawson is a special talent. She finished with five kills, three blocks, and two digs against the Missouri Juniors. She hits the ball with authority and might be able to jump over cars. Dawson is also a leader on the team and you can just tell that other players gravitate to her. I would not hesitate to project her as Division I prospect and she has plenty of time to continue to refine her game. She ball screams after she hits which definitely qualifies her as a “Heavy Hitter.”
Amya Kador, 5’5”, DS, Blue Valley Northwest
Kador is a high-energy defensive player. She finished with eight digs and six serve receptions in the tournament’s opening match. Kador has a solid defensive base, plays on her toes, and makes a consistent first pass. She and Dawson were attached at the hip during warmups and who knows, perhaps one day they might be a recruiting combo for some program.
Abbie Roth Abbie Roth 5'9" | S Piper | 2025 State KS , 5’9”, S, Piper
Roth is a skilled setter who I believe could also be a threat as a hitter. The Piper product finished with seven assists and one dig. She has an accurate serve and racked up two aces in the win.
