We were super excited to run our first session of the Salt Lake City Showdown Showcase in conjunction with the Salt Lake City Showdown National Qualifier in Salt Lake City, UT on Friday, April 7th We had some of the best players from many states attend. Many players stood out to our court coaches and scouts throughout the entire showcase for a variety of reasons. Some players stood out for their dynamic physical skills and some stood out for intangibles like leadership, effort and attitude. Let’s meet a few of the players who earned the honor of Top Performer at the SLC Showdown Showcase.
Savannah Evans [2024] 5-9 Right Side/Setter (HS: JSerra Catholic/Club: San Clemente/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Savannah is currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 Class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings, but we were super impressed with what we saw at the showcase and will add her to the watch list. She plays for JSerra Catholic High School and also plays club for the San Clemente program. Miss Evans did a fantastic job showcasing her entire volleyball skills during the scrimmages. This young lady is able to play any position on the court and her athleticism was on full display. She can set, dig, pass, and attack at a high level. She has a very high contact point on her attack, which helps her attacking efficiency due to the blocker having to time it perfectly in order to slow her down. One aspect that helps her stay aggressive is her lightning quick arm swing that adds a lot of pop on the ball that she attacks. I also love that she is able to turn down the line with some heat to score. For only being five foot nine, she does a great job of timing her block to make sure she gets a solid chance to slow down her opposing hitter. We were impressed with her abilities for sure and think she is a solid player.
Cayden Fite [2025] 5-1 Libero (HS: Rocky Mountain/Club: Stars and Stripes/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Cayden is an unranked prospect in the 2025 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. She plays at Rocky Mountain High School and also for the Stars and Stripes Volleyball club. Our court coaches were thoroughly impressed with the hustle and effort that Miss Fite showed in both the individual positional drills and during the scrimmages. She was not afraid to get on the floor if need be in order to save a ball from hitting the floor. I loved what I saw with her footwork and movement. She kept a very low posture throughout her entire movement and during contact, which will help her stay consistent with her ball control. Her heels hardly touched the floor and she kept her weight on the balls of her feet to keep her quick on the court. Some players just enjoy playing this game on a different level and she was always smiling and cheering her teammates on even if she didn’t know them. When players have attitudes like that during showcases, it really shows their true character. Cayden was a true joy to have in our showcase and we can’t wait to see her play again.
Jocelyn Grieser Jocelyn Grieser 5'10" | RS North Creek | 2025 State WA [2025] 5-10 Right Side/Outside (HS: North Creek/Club: NPJ Seattle/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Jocelyn is currently ranked as the 95th best overall prospect in the 2025 Class according to our Prep Dig Washington State Rankings. She plays at North Creek High School and also for the NPJ Seattle club program. Jocelyn showed a very live arm during both the individual positional drills and the scrimmages. I loved how versatile she was moving the ball around to score in a variety of ways. From the left she takes a picturesque approach and keeps her contact point very high. On the right side, she lets the ball cross over her right shoulder well enough to be able to hit line with tons of power. She is also able to generate lots of torque by slightly angling away from the ball and throttle the ball hard cross. One of the best aspects in her game is her awesome ability to adjust her foot speed in order to change tempos. Their offensive scheme uses her on high tempo sets along the pins and they also bring her closer to the setter for second tempo swings to keep the defense off-balance. For a young player to be able to do this and still be consistently aggressive shows just how advanced she is. We will keep watching her growth over the years and can’t wait to see her in action again.
