Today’s edition will focus on pin attackers that have made the most of their junior seasons in club and look forward to their final seasons in high school.
Melaina Hawblitzel Melaina Hawblitzel 5'10" | RS Warsaw | 2024 State IN , 5-10 RS, Warsaw, Team Pineapple
An explosive and fiery attacker, Melaina can attack from all arm angles to all parts of the court from either pin. We list her as a right side because that’s where I’ve seen the majority of her work, but she can do whatever she wants from either pin. I like the springy nature to her athleticism, as that will do her wonders for her future.
Brooklyn Edmonds Brooklyn Edmonds 5'9" | OH Rossville | 2024 State IN , 5-9 OH, Rossville, Boiler Juniors
The first of two attackers from Boiler Juniors, Brooklyn is adept at multiple positions. While at Rossville, she’s the most athletic attacker they have, so they put her in the middle to attack from in front of and behind the setter. On the open-level club scene, Miss Edmonds can attack from either pin, but should probably be placed as an outside because of her size. No matter—her athleticism and jumping ability could realistically place her anywhere along the front line in the fall of ’24.
Madison Evett Madison Evett 6'1" | OH Hamilton Southeastern | 2024 State IN , 6-1 OH, Hamilton Southeastern, Academy
A big an strong pin attacker, Madison is the only one on this list with a state title to her name. She takes up space on the block, can put away a number of sets from any number of angles and can terminate at will. Her high-and-hard attack point should bode well for her future, as she’s the only one on this list to attack at such a high point (ten feet!!!).
Sienna Foster Sienna Foster 5'9" | OH Benton Central | 2024 State IN , 5-9 OH, Benton Central, Boiler Juniors
The quintessential primary passing outside, Sienna is the literal definition of what one looks like at Boiler Juniors. She should never come out, as her all-around game has matured so much that the team she’s on would feel the loss nearly immediately if she was subbed out. Explosive and quick, Miss Foster always finds ways to “better the ball”, a trait lost on a lot of attackers these days.
Leigh Carnes Leigh Carnes 5'8" | OH Springs Valley | 2024 State IN , 5-8 OH, Springs Valley, Union
From southern Indiana, Leigh is asked to do pretty much everything for her high school program. While playing an open-level schedule at Union, she’s a compact and primary passing outside that excels at her ball control, just like every Union outside hitter. I can easily see Leigh take a schollie for a sand program that might split her time between both disciplines. Her volleyball IQ is one of the best in this class, and the only thing limiting her is opportunity.
