Lilly Tappel Lilly Tappel 5'10" | OH Providence | 2024 State IN , 5-10 OH/DS, Providence, Union
Lilly’s choice of discipline has yet to be announced, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she ended up playing both indoor AND outdoor ball in the fall of ’24. She’s a primary-passing six rotation outside for state champ Providence, while being a key cog in Union’s top 17s team at the open level of club. In short, she can do whatever, wherever and whenever you need her. It’s just a matter of time.
Scarlett Kimbrell Scarlett Kimbrell 6'0" | OH Franklin Community | 2024 State IN , 6-0 OH/MB, Franklin Community, Circle City
Two years ago, I would not have put the ‘OH’ in her positional description. She was a middle that excelled hitting off of one foot, as evidenced by her extensive basketball background. These days, she’s playing all the way around for the Grizzly Cubs as a pin attacker and has more than held her own as a three-rotation pin for Circle’s top 17s team (Purple). Having that level of versatility is second to none, and her athleticism and experience playing open-level ball should have college coaches salivating already.
Marin Sanchez Marin Sanchez 5'10" | OH Andrean | 2024 State IN , 5-10 OH, Andrean, Epic United
Yet another kid with a state title under her belt, this young lady is a primary passing six rotation outside that plays both her high school and club ball in the region, seeing nothing but high-level play year-round. She jumps well (is ten feet ok?), has great ball control, and has a high volleyball IQ. Plus, she’s been doing all of this for a while—she’s an obvious plug-and-play option at a small school near you for the fall of ’24.
Makenzie Wagner Makenzie Wagner 5'10" | RS Providence | 2024 State IN , 5-10 RS, Providence, Union
On the other pin from Lilly, listed above, Makenzie can pass, defend, attack and bomb serves regularly, all while being left-handed. Her volleyball acuity, like most Union players, is heady, crafty and smart. She can pound it, too, just in case you need a terminator on the right side. I’ve like this kid for years, and her versatility should have her committed sooner rather than later for the fall of ’24.
Whitney Scherrer Whitney Scherrer 6'2" | S North Central | 2024 State IN , 6-2 S, North Central, Munciana
Overlooked at the high school level because another setter on the squad has Ivy League aspirations (Penn, to be precise), Whitney is a long and lean athletic setter. She took her talents to Munciana to learn the ways of ball control and high-level play, and her meteoric rise is not short-lived. She’s clearly the best athlete on the Pandas, and her ability to do a little of everything on the court in addition to running a 5-1 offense make her the top available setter in this class.
